One side of Instrument Cluster is dark

I was wondering if anyone experienced partly dark instrument cluster. I believe one or two of the bulbs burned, mine whole right side is very dark. I compared it to my friends car, and his is much brighter. During the night the LANCER sign is barely visable, a little bit better with the fuel and water tem. gauage since they are getting some illumination from the middle of the pannel. My question is what kind of bulbs go in there. I would like to find out before I go for my weekend trip so I could get some bulbs and do it over the weekend.

Had the same problem. Replaced a bulb in the instrument cluster and everything is OK now. I've heard quite a few people had this problem too.

do you know what type of bulbs go in there? I don't want to make 2 trips just to get bulbs.

I have this same stupid problem with my OZ rally.. the whole right side is so dark. I'll have to take out my cluster again. I just took it out to put a CF gauge bezel in. I believe the bulb size for the lights is T1.5?

There are some threads about changing the brightness of the cluster...show and shine section maybe. Anyways, a couple of them are pretty good, and will tell you exaclty what bulbs to use, where to place them, etc.

This is the thread:

http://bolsen.homeip.net/evolights.htm

It'll show you how to remove the cluster and bulbs. I think replacement bulbs from the dealer is about $5 per bulb.

OK, here is the update. I was able to take the cluster apart this weekend, it has four major bulbls lighing up the cluster. Right, middle, and the left side plus the one for the odometer. To make the story interesting the right side was very dark. So I thought one of the bulbs burned, took the cluster apart to find out all of them are fine, with one exeption. The one on the right was little bit darker than the other two. I started switching around. All of them have white condoms on them, so I decided to rip a condom out of the darker bulb. Guess what, voila, it fixed my problem, it is much brighter now than it was before. Also, for those who want to take out the cluster, follow the description provided in the Dr. Fob's link, you will save yourself some headahe.

One more thing, the bulb that I posted before on this thread is not the one lighing up the cluster. So don't even buy them. I'm going to search the web for the right one, or maybe someone with the access to the parts has a right part number and the size of it. There are different sizez all of the cluster, if I'm not mistaken I think there are 3.

yeh, that's the bolsen mod. Not much of a mod but bolsen's pretty good about sharing these little details to make our cars better.
