Cobalt and srt4 are virtually equal. low-mid 14's 1/4, etc:

from the stats, it says, 205hp and 200tq and it rolls on 18'' rims, but from the stats on the evo viii it says 276hp and 286tq on 17" rims. so with those stats tell me why an evo can't beat an cobalt? so the cobalt is about as fast as a tsi awd? its just the lag on the turbos that make it slower?

He let me drive his Cobalt SS but that car almost has no lag. Instant boost from any rpm. Srt-4 and Cobalt SS have a great performance for thier price tag but Evo's handling is uncomparable to most of the car out there.
I don't think my Evo's weak but I was pretty shocked with what Cobalt SS can do.

the srt4 is 230 and 250, isn't the evo faster than that also?

Top Speed wise stock vs stock it can go faster, but eventually the srt will edge the evo from a roll.

that motor trend website don't make no sense to me cause if on a 1/4mile it hits 14.4 secs@99.3mph how come it hits 0-100 in 15.4secs? i know it don't have that quick of a boost in a duration. same as the srt4. it says 0-100, 13.8secs than on the 1/4mile it says 14.4 secs@100.8 now that don't make any sense to me. can someone explain that to me or is this bs info?

My car's stock (only cat-back exhaust)
Has anyone else raced Cobalt SS?
You didn't drive the EVO right, man. From the fact that you catched up from behind, it indicated that your car has more power. It maybe at the shifting point that you slowed it down. If you gonna race, throw it all out on the table, don't hold back like (i don't want to dump the clutch... bla bla..) and go on complaining about the car. The EVO is a different category compare to those cars man. In my stock MR, I always left those cars way behind when they want a piece of it. Yes! I slipped the clutch, yes I shifted as quick as I can to beat them. They will do the same too. So next time if you gonna race a car, give it all you got.

Cars do not always put down what they're rated at. The Cobalt is underrated from the factory. It puts down more WHP than it's rated at the crank. If you have a basic understanding of the concept of WHP and BHP, it will be easier to understand why these races turn out the way they do.

Back on the subject of why your race went the way it did......

5 MPH roll owns EVOs.

Always do 40 rolls. Try it again and let us know what happens. That will tell us if something is wrong with your car.

Wow... it seems that A LOT of you people posting random nonsense do not understand the concept of turbo lag. Starting a race from 5mph will DRASTICALLY decrease your ET compared to a complete stop or to higher rpms (higher mph). At 5mph, you're giving the cobalt a complete advantage by letting it jump ahead several cars with the supercharged power. For the Cobalt, it can start at 0mph, 5mph, or 100mph... it gets instant torque from that belt-driven supercharger... unlike our evo's exhaust-gas-driven turbocharger.

There's nothing wrong with your car. I doubt you did anything wrong in racing (doesn't take a genius to race from a roll), and I don't doubt that the Cobalt was stock. Just understand how that car's engine works compared to ours and you'll see why it *seemed* like you were slow compared to it.

Want another example of how this works? UKDM Evo 8 FQ400 vs a 1.6L N/A Fiat from a 30mph roll in 5th gear... the Fiat (with several hundreds less hp) beats the FQ400. On the other hand, the FQ400 keeps up with Lamborghini's when racing in the right conditions.

Get my point?

Remember that test Top Speed did with an FQ EVO against an inferior vehicle like a non-turbo 4 cyl Volkswagen or something. They started at 5 mph and punched it and the other car beat the FQ in the quarter mile b/c the turbo took so long to spool up. I would run him again from 15 mph in first gear....

BTW, it seems the Cobalt's numbers are low. It is probably making closer to 215 or 220 hp.
