Is my Evo slow? (Lined up w/ Cobalt SS)
a car is worthless to me if it does not have all-wheel drive. i drive in snow and dirt. in such low-traction conditions, all-wheel drive is a necessity, not a bullet point on a list.

stock evo are slow if your gona drag race its more meant for the track. if you wana drag more once you get some basic mods in it like turbo back, intake and flash you are at ~300whp and if you get cams fuel pump FMIC you will be close to 350whp and trapping 111-112.

For the Cobalt, it can start at 0mph, 5mph, or 100mph... it gets instant torque from that belt-driven supercharger... unlike our evo's exhaust-gas-driven turbocharger.
There's nothing wrong with your car. I doubt you did anything wrong in racing (doesn't take a genius to race from a roll), and I don't doubt that the Cobalt was stock. Just understand how that car's engine works compared to ours and you'll see why it *seemed* like you were slow compared to it.
Want another example of how this works? UKDM Evo 8 FQ400 vs a 1.6L N/A Fiat from a 30mph roll in 5th gear... the Fiat (with several hundreds less hp) beats the FQ400. On the other hand, the FQ400 keeps up with Lamborghini's when racing in the right conditions.
Get my point?

i've roll-raced from low speed rolls and won many times. but the way i was driving was a bit different, i was slightly on the gas so my rpms were sitting a little high and then when we counted to 3, my rpms were sitting high enough to get into boost pretty fast. it was probably 10-15mph rolls tho. but when i do take off from 5mph rolls, whatever car it is: it jumps ahead, but once i hit mid-2nd gear, i usually catch up and im gone unless im racing something with a lot of torque, then i wouldnt even try the 5mph roll race/

I didn't expect to have this blow up discussion and get much hate and criticism for one comment I made.
I understand where the peak power is and the advantage of AWD and turbo. I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering with IC Engine option. I don't need anyone to give me lesson in how to drive either. (Not talking about 3000ways in particular)
5mph roll doesn't rev up enough to give enough boost... I knew it before I raced.... I should quit writing before I say something wrong.
you do roll racing, you're just not thinking clearly.
I bet a grand prix or the escalade could beat you from a roll. lol
depends on the driver as well as how well the car is tuned.
but really, what's the point in rolling?
I beat a supercharged cobra from stop at the track by about 5 car lengths. But if I rolled him, there is no way I could beat him.
His 60 ft - 2.9
my 60 ft -1.8 (slipped too long)

oh god... the cobalt = ghey.. evo = cool.. enough said.. anyway, you lost because you started at 5mph.. at least start from 15-25 when you're at the top of first gear, that way the turbo would spool up instantly and the evo would sh*t on the cobalt. Also, i noticed that the evo has this lag or delay in throttle response. so if you floor it about a half a second early, the guy next to you will think you started at the same time and the race will be even. cheating, yes.. beating an american car, do it at all costs.
oops, sorry i didn't read your post.. well of course you knew waht the advantages were when you bought the car.. if you didn't you woulda bought a saturn. hahah

Sorry, racing the Evo below at least 4500 rpm is kind of pointless. And if you are racing "from a roll," hello, DOWNSHIFT! Your car's not what's slow, you are slow ;-)
I'm impressed with what I'm reading about the cobalt though, didn't think is was much of a car but it sounds like it can put up a fight with the SRT-4.

THE EVO IS NOT A STRAIGHT LINE CAR!!! Why do people have so much trouble understanding this? How can you say a stock Evo is slow when it murders just about anything else on the track?
