Id have to say the Ion is the ugliest looking car of all steriod injected cars.

cobalt = cavalier
srt= neon
ion = the regular sc300 or whatever its name is, but uglier.

and yes an evolution = lancer.

Why the hostility? He's not a ***** for not launching the ever-living hell out of his car. No wonder we have so many burnt clutch threads.

BUT if you didn't want to launch and wanted to go from a roll, 5 MPH is the worst possible speed to go from. Do 40 next time and you should walk on him.

For the Cobalt, it can start at 0mph, 5mph, or 100mph... it gets instant torque from that belt-driven supercharger... unlike our evo's exhaust-gas-driven turbocharger.

There's nothing wrong with your car. I doubt you did anything wrong in racing (doesn't take a genius to race from a roll), and I don't doubt that the Cobalt was stock. Just understand how that car's engine works compared to ours and you'll see why it *seemed* like you were slow compared to it.

Want another example of how this works? UKDM Evo 8 FQ400 vs a 1.6L N/A Fiat from a 30mph roll in 5th gear... the Fiat (with several hundreds less hp) beats the FQ400. On the other hand, the FQ400 keeps up with Lamborghini's when racing in the right conditions.

Get my point?
Wow great post. I don't know about everyone else, but that cleared it up for me.

BTW, it seems the Cobalt's numbers are low. It is probably making closer to 215 or 220 hp.

Um that's not right. It's more like they started in top gear at a 15 mph roll, FQ vs some stupid european rental car, and the rental beat the evo over like the length of a runway to show the turbo lag, from top gear. plus the FQ has a bigger turbo than the GS-R, so there are a lot of points your missing.

Edit: just saw the above post with the quote, that's what im talking about.

I can't believe I wasn't thinking about that 5MPH Roll, I mean the same thing happend to me in my modded 3000GT VR4 (when I owned it) and it was against a Honda Pilot . I was in the left lane and the Pilot in the right. Well I needed to get over to right lane rather quickly, so when the light turned green I took off somewhat agressively, but so did the Pilot. So I then punched it to get around the Pilot, but the Pilot also punched it also, man my car felt really slow and I didn't even make my turn. So I was pissed off, and I tracked down the Pilot, and we went from like a 30MPH roll and I just obliterated him and this was only to like 80MPH. I kind of felt embarrased racing a SUV, but hey he had it coming.

agree, but even from 5 mph u should of been a bit past him, that is unless they have the same hp, not sure but i dont think so.

The Cobalt got the jump, and his EVO started to pull, so his EVO obvioulsy is the stronger vehicle. I also believe that it is true, the Cobalt is underrated, trap speeds of 98-99MPH suggest this. I do not think it is as powerful as the SRT-4 which dyno between 215-230WHP (dynojet), but I do believe it dynos a bit over 200WHP. My guess is 200-210WHP on the average, which means it is much more powerful than the factory rating.

Ok I found this on the Cobalt SS website, they may even make more power than my first guestimate of 200-210WHP, more like 210-220WHP-

1st run is stock
2nd run is with filter

What ever happened to boost braking. From a roll u need to learn this technique to compete with the big boys and i guess if u are stock the Cobalt and Srt-4 will give u problems w/o using this technique. Left foot on the brake and right foot slowly depressing accelerator. It works and w/o using it them roll races with SS camaros and Cobras would of been ugly for me.

Well the SRT-4's can do the same thing, so it would only be an advantage against the insta-boost SS's.

SS's SS's SS's, thats so much fun to say!

ive got respect for the SS....comp cams has ecotec profiles but dont know if they are the supercharger varient...match that with a pulley! GM likes to underate their engines....they allways have. Im going to test one out today but I still dont like the aluminum block for some reason....cant recall if this block has been boosted for racing in a different platform (i.e. Saturn redline, Saab?)

Though my experiance has been the rods...they are the weak link in the Ecotec engine...400hp (if you can call that weak) I do like the fact that the cams are chain driven with accessories bolted to the block. ...plus they get an optional LSD for the first year run cant say that about the srt4 lol
