Unhappy Is my Evo slow? (Lined up w/ Cobalt SS)

Last night, my friend got Cobalt SS so we lined up. I didn't wanna drop the clutch so we started from 5mph. At below 3000rpm, Cobalt took off but when boost built up in my car, it cought up with Cobalt but it was dead even.
My car's stock (only cat-back exhaust)
Has anyone else raced Cobalt SS?

My friend in his 01 Cobra (before blower) was dead even with a Cobalt SS from a 40 roll to about a hundred. These Cobalts with tune, pulley, and exhaust can run in the mid to high twelves at the track.

they are quick and supercharged so for 15 yards or a tad bit less they should on a stock evo.
we all can remember how slow a stock evo is

Wow the Cobalt SS are quick, but you should have pulled atleast a car or two on it. I think they have been tested trapping at 98MPH. It is true, that some EVOs are just not as powerful as others out of the box. The best way to find out, is to get your car on a dyno and see what she does in comparison to other stock EVOs.

A stock EVO is not nearly as fast as modified one, but it is not slow. A stock EVO should not be neck to neck with a Cobalt SS. Unless something is wrong with the EVO or it is a weak stock EVO to began with. Most stock EVOs trap well over 100MPH, that is not slow in my book.

If you start a race @ 5mph against almost any car, I'm sure it'll make you wanna cry. Our cars (and most other turbo cars for that matter) are only fast if we're at the right rpm, at the right speed, in the right gear, at the right time... meaning, until we're in boost, we're slower than almost anything. Supercharged cars, like the Cobalt SS, do not suffer from the same turbo lag that we do, they get instant torque at any rpm.

From the 5mph roll was your problem. Try it from a stop and a good launch and it will be a different story.

this is bcuz the japanese & europeans are leaders & the americans are followers. not to mention the US performance car sales keep plummeting as they make more SUV's & there really aren't any fast cars left for domestic buyers to get between $25-40k other than a GTO(which is an import also).

On a road course or a twisty road the Evo would kick the Cobalts a**. That is all that matters.

You should be able to take a stock Cobalt SS from a roll. I have raced my buddies SRT-4 from a roll at 40 and we were dead even at the end when we were both stock. Put some cams in your car and get a tune, that is the key when racing from a roll.

i don't understand how you couldn't beat a ss cobalt. from the stats, you have over 75hp and 85tq on it stock, why wouldn't you be able to beat it? i don't think that it was stock. i understand its constant power cause its SC but still it don't make since. i know srt4 are fast also but from what races i seen, srt4s are slower than evos also, by 20+ hp and about 25+tq, you should still murder them unless you don't drive your car well.

you are crazy if you think the stock evo has 75 hp over the cobalt. my buddies stock cobalt was dynoed at 220 whp, most evos dyno between 240-250 whp stock. if you figure the supercharger kicking in before the turbo, and the vehicle being lighter in weight, its not unbelieveable that the cobalt hung around.
