Quote: You didn't drive the EVO right, man. From the fact that you catched up from behind, it indicated that your car has more power. It maybe at the shifting point that you slowed it down. If you gonna race, throw it all out on the table, don't hold back like (i don't want to dump the clutch... bla bla..) and go on complaining about the car. The EVO is a different category compare to those cars man. In my stock MR, I always left those cars way behind when they want a piece of it. Yes! I slipped the clutch, yes I shifted as quick as I can to beat them. They will do the same too. So next time if you gonna race a car, give it all you got.
My car, my payment, let me drive it the way I want. I did drop the clutch on the third try but we had to leave. I also understand Evo isn't design for drug racing. Did I complaing anything about Evo?

I understand I'm giving away the advantage of having AWD if we roll start but, for me, 70 hp difference made a bigger difference.

You would absolutely destroy him from a stop. A higher RPM roll would also put the hurt on him. A supercharged 4-cylinder motor is really not that great. The Cobalt SS is OK, but the parasitic drag on that piece will hurt its top end. The reason you lost is because you race like a *****.

Thanks for that. Only thing I did was roller from 5 mph. I switched the gear as quickly as possible and dumped the clutch with I was moving. You didn't see **** so don't talk ****.

When I bought my EVO, it was running 12/13 psi stock. If you don't have a gauge, get one and check your boost. I thought the car was quick before I noticed this but after boosting it to 20psi, it now feels like what I've heard everyone talking about.

This could be the issue, oh and also the 5 mph role. Most cars will take you at the speed until you boost.

SRT and SS are NOT "almost equal". They put down 200 to the wheels, while SRT's will put 220-230 and weigh the same.

That MT article is full of ****, they posted the SLOWEST times i'v ever seen a magazine race an SRT-4 at. Everyone else can manage to get high 13s low 14s @ 100mph-102mph. 0-60
s in 5.3-5.6 .Guess GM gave them more then dodge that month huh?

Quote: that motor trend website don't make no sense to me cause if on a 1/4mile it hits 14.4 secs@99.3mph how come it hits 0-100 in 15.4secs? i know it don't have that quick of a boost in a duration. same as the srt4. it says 0-100, 13.8secs than on the 1/4mile it says 14.4 secs@100.8 now that don't make any sense to me. can someone explain that to me or is this bs info?

You said there're 70 hp different but you have to know where and when those hps is coming in or available to you. That's why I said you have to know to drive your EVO, you have a wonderful car there just have to get to master it. I was in the similar situation with the car 2 years ago when I just got it. The different when you obviously beat a car is between 2-3 seconds and if you hesitated for a few seconds when you're racing (even just a friendly run) even the Prius can beat you.

A few months from now when you get to know your EVO better, you'll see what I said. Enjoy the car and don't compare it to the Cobalt or SRT in their stock form.

Don't fret...
I was also thinking that a SC 4cyl car would have a bad top end, how fast did you run him? I would suspect that low/mid range RMPs the SS is good with instant tq, but falls off up top like many SC cars... Sounds like the SS is a cool little car for the money. I would bet the SRT4 would destroy the SS up top...

How about that Saturn Redline SC, anyone seen one?

All three of the cars I mentioned are cool little cars, but they are not for me no matter how fast... I drove the SRT4 and it was very fast, but the handling was terrible, massive wheel spin off the line, etc..... I imagine the SS is similar... The EVO has many other attributes that make it what it is... Don't fret it... Ask yourself if you would be happy giving your EVO for that car even if it was tons faster in a straight line... I suspect you would not...

If your gonna race.. you should bring it. you making us look bad by half assing these guys.. ok you probably didnt read this part in your owners manual but you have two options when you get reved on.. option 1 is flip them the bird and go about your business.. option 2 get ready to for a massive launch. the proper decision ratio should be about 90:10
