I own a SEIBON hood, and consider Shawn a friend, but that just isn't true.
The SEIBON hood is really an amazing piece - fit and finish are *perfect* and the weave is flawless... but it is not lighter than OEM.
Same weight - OEM to SEIBON... weighted them myself.
Now maybe another company has a lighter hood on the market - but I can't believe it's as high of quality.

I agree Seibon hood is amazingly light. But really that much weight wont contribute that much compare to already light aluminum hood from stock.
seibon hood in person, when I saw it was fairely flimsy.
Also, a thing to consider about CF hood is that some of the designs offer more air ventilation to cool the upper intercooler pipings as well as allowing your cone filter to breath a lot colder air than the stock hood.
However, in the event of an accident, the structure of the CF hood wont absorb any sorta impact, so you'll be taking much of that force onto your body.
Also, there are some cases, yellow type R for example, the mounting point for the hood cracked, usually the weak point in the CF hood design, and went through the windshield and decapitated the passengers head, which happens to be the drivers girlfriend.
Hopefully, I've contributed to this thread a bit. This is why CF hoods for off-road and for race only cars and why they're not DOT approved.

It's a matter of preference. Personally I like my hood to match the rest of the car color wise. I also think the whole cf hood thing has been played out. I see everything with a cf hood in the chicagoland area these days.
Aluminum stock hood is probably the same weight as a carbon fiber hood...If you get carbon fiber..its only purpose it serves is to give you the carbon fiber color. What a waste of money...just my .02.

Well it's kinda a waste of money in my opinion too...I mean for the same money you put into a CF hood..you could get the C-West front end that actually helps with cooling. I just thought since so many people were putting CF hoods on their Evo's that maybe there was more to it than just rice lol.
