120 in a 60? u damn lucky! i got caught doing 104 in a 45 and had 2 go 2 school and pay $550. the only reason i didnt go 2 jail or the car<acura type R>impounded was that the guy i was racing didnt stop and the cop got pissed and went after him. i waited over 1.5 hours before the cop came back. i felt i was lucky then, but GOSH DAMN UR STUPID LUCKY!!!!

You are misinterpreting everything. The idea of the speed limit is not only for your safety but the safety of others. How would you feel if some speeding ******* killed someone close to you? If you dont like that way the government regulates your life then maybe you should be living under a different government.

And again, speeding doesn't kill, actually hitting something does, and at that point someone is committing a crime I agree. When was the last time 'moving really fast' killed you? It doesn't. Your logic is horrible. You are saying that speeding isnt a crime until you hit someone? Thats absolutely crazy. Had you not been speeding you might have avoided the accident, which is the main point of making a speed limit. The speed limit law follows complete logic and reason and there is no possible way you can prove otherwise.

 

If someone got into an accident because they could not control their velocity, then that's reckless driving, which is something that is not mutually inclusive of 'speeding'. I can go 200 mph in a McLaren F1 down an open highway and not even collide with a fly (hypothetically speaking, I only dream of driving such cars), does that mean I should be ticketed for speeding... even though I endangered no one? What I do on an open road is my own business. If I want to speed, I'll speed. If I want to putt-putt along at 45mph, then why not? It doesn't matter, because its my car, my life, and my time (and the same would go for you, etc). I never said I condoned reckless driving, and 'speeding' in and of itself does not fulfill the criteria for 'reckless driving'.

I was clocked at 110 on 65 limit and got away. The police radar was pointing at the back towards my car and probably he suspect his radar is not reading it right. I told him I go 70mph. No ticket.

 

You are missing the point. Its like saying "what I do in my home is my business. If I want to smoke crack and rape/kill people then ill do it". Its easy to drive fast with no one on the road but that doesnt mean its safe. What if you were going 200mph as you say and you got a blowout, lost control, and died. If you were going 60mph or whatever the speed limit was on the road you probably would have been able to control your car and pull over safely, alive. If you are going 100mph on the highway and all of the sudden traffic slows and you rear-end the car in front of you, you're telling me that speed wasnt a factor in that accident? Of course speed is a huge factor because if you werent speeding you probably could have slowed down in time. You cant just enforce a law sometimes. Speeding is dangerous no matter what wheather its a heavily trafficed area or an open road.

 

I never said anything about trampling upon the rights of others, I'd been defending quite the opposite point. However, what I do in my house *is* my own business. (As long as I'm not hurting anyone else). If I want to masterbate to carrot **** while I sit on hot coals while doing crack cocaine.... what business is it of yours? Of anyones? As for your mention I might kill myself doing 200 mph, I again state... it was *my* risk to take. You take a risk every time you exit your house. Heck, someone might shoot you. Does that mean we should all baracade ourselves in fortresses and never leave? Hell no! If I kill myself, then ya, it sucks for me. But that's just it... it was my life, not yours, and I chose to live it differently. I took the risk and I lost, but it was my risk to take. Endangering other people was never something I defended.

I am much safer in my EVO at 120MPH than these turbo diesel trucks towing campers at 65MPH. Hell half the old farts on the road can't see and are worse than 16yo drivers.

The problem comes from giving a man a badge. These knuckle shufflers let it go right to their heads and think they have all this control. Better wear that vest fuxxer.

There are wife beatings, rapes, robberies, and worse happening and all the storm troopers want to do is sit with their radar guns and ruin a persons day.

Furthermore the limits are WAY TO LOW for the vehicles we drive today. Maybe the US should keep the sh!tboxes off the road instead of punishing everyone for a few bad apples.

120 in a 60 is a tad much but in an evo its no worse than 85 in a redneck pickup truck.

 

Once again you are missing the point. Yes, it is your choice if you want to speed and kill yourself, but the law is there to protect you. Im not talking about masturbating in your house Im talking about breaking the law. Just because you do something on your time/territory does not mean its legal. By speeding you could potentially be hurting someone else, which once again, is why the law is there. You examples of not ever leaving the house are ridiculous and far too extreme. Yes, there is of course risk every time you drive, but the speed limit is there to reduce that risk. You will never win this argument. My points are far more valid and concise than yours. What about the rights of the others who have to use the jaws of life to pull your limp or possibly alive remains from the side of the road after you lose control. I also find your logic as flawed as those who insist they have a god given right to not wear a seatbelt. Guess what-- at 60mph or higher your body being thrown from a vehicle as a projectile can hit and injure or kill my passengers and I. Last time I checked we have a right to be safe moreso than you do not wearing a belt.

At a ridiculously high speed you may end on the opposite side of the highway and colliding with a minivan populated by parents and small children returning from vacation-- or even onto a property adjacent to the freeway. What about their rights?

 

Erm, my whole point was that a law of which is based in protecting me... from myself.... is inherently flawed. What risk I take, and what I choose to do to myself, is my own business, and the government has no business in it. As long as people don't hurt others, let them do their own thing. Don't restrict their freedom simply because you don't like what they're doing. You mention I could endanger others by speeding, but I argue that is not true on an open clear road. Therefor, speeding should not be a ticketable offense, given the circumstances. Reckless driving should be a ticketable offense, of course. But speeding down an open road, hardly 'recklessly endangers' anyone, yet cops would still love to write you a big fat ticket anyway, and that is wrong.
