I was trying out the TD06 turbo in my '91 MR2T years back, and I was just going along at about 60 mph in a 55 zone... There was this car a ways back that looked kinda like a cop, but people were passing me on the left, so I assumed it was NOT a cop. Anyhow, testing the new turbo, I GOT ON IT and went from 60 to about 135 mph (topped out 4th, hit 5th for a few seconds...). As I was doing this, I took a 45 mph exit ramp and got off the freeway. All of the sudden that suspicious car starts following me, and sure enough, it was a cop So, he pulls me over, asks how fast I was going. I replied with something like "I'm not sure, maybe like 70-75?" and he says "well, I doubt that, because I was doing 65 behind you and you took off like I was standing still!..." so here I am thinking "****, here comes a big fat ticket..."

He checks my license / registration / insurance, comes back and says "that's a nice car for someone 20 years old to be driving... if you keep driving it like that, they will not insure you and you'll have to give it up, so slow down."

No ticket! Very nice cop, just gave me a good verbal warning and that was it.

True. I was stopped this week by a cop in a white suburban!! I was following him for about 3 miles, actually a whole line of cars, as you can imagine people in SC drive slow, but anyway I digress. So, I'm late for work, and I pull out on the white suburban pass him and I'm about to really get on it when I see it looks like he's trying to keep up!! I say, "you've gotta be kidding me," and I pull harder. Next thing I know he's pulling down the visor and blue lights are all over the thing! It's a state trooper! I pull off and the guy is cool. Said I was doing 92 in a 60. This is on I-77. He actually just runs my license and gives me a warning. Needless to say, I've got my eye on SUVs with tinted windows from here on out....

I thought I posted this before. I was cought going 120 in a 55 and I was let off only because I was the only car of the 3 speeding that slowed down for the cop. I was like oh $hit I'm f@uck*d but then he was so cool and just let me go with a verbal.

This was down on a road that no one ever drives on and it was 2 something in the morning no one besides the drivers were at risk. The stang and the SRT both got hit by highway patrol and there cars were inpounded.

Give me a break. Fing idiots.

I can't believe people are bragging about this sort of trash. You want to kill yourself, or, others? How about you just leave the others out of it and go straight to option A.

Because doing 120 on the street is the ultimate cosmetic mod for your car.

OR, take a bit more pricey of a hit. Take a guess as to what it is, it will make you weep.

When you are wrapped around a light pole with your buddy you were showing off for 100ft on the concrete in front of you through the windshield, or tboned a minivan with small children in it just to get your thrill of speed on the interstate and to look cool, maybe you will figure it out.

Take it to the damned track. Least there you won't kill anyone but yourself for your ineptitude.

While I can appreciate both points of view, I'd definitely take the side of Grav in this little debate. How bout some fun facts first...

1. In Montana, some roads have no speed limit at all during daylight hours. I've yet to see a flurry of national news reports about the massive loss of life brought on by the lack of a speed limit out there during the day.

2. In Germany, there are many different tests you have to take to qualify for certain roads. To use the unlimited speed autobahn, you must have the highest level certification, which actually requires knowledge and skill to attain.

I won't comment on any logic already stated, you guys did a fine job of that already. I will however offer a solution, even though there is probably zero chance it will ever be adopted.

The entire American driving system needs a massive overhaul. Right now, it is a complete joke to get a license. People who can't read or communicate in English get licenses everyday. Old people with the reaction speed of a brick get licenses everyday. Our government is gladly putting these people behind the wheel of 4000 pound weapons and setting them loose on all of us with less training than it takes to program a VCR. Personally, I think that should be against the law.

There needs to be different level certifications for your driver's license, similar to Germany. I understand that old people still need to get around, but if they aren't capable of passing relevent tests to receive the proper certification, they will have to stick to surface streets to get where they are going. How many times have all of you out there seen some moron poking *** on the highway cause a major traffic backup, and more than likely accidents as a result?

On the speeding topic, I think speeding laws are ridiculous. How fast I go is my business, not the governments. To prevent accidents, the deterrent should be brutal penalties for causing accidents, not massive fines just for speeding. Cause a minor accident, hows $1000 ticket sound? Cause an accident with hospital confirmed injuries, hows losing your license for 6 months sound? Cause an accident and someone dies, hows losing your license for a minimum 5 years sound? Those numbers could of course be played around with to get the desired affect, but it would punish people for encroaching on others, not simply for enjoying themselves when its safe to do so.

All of this would quickly filter the morons off of the streets. The people who drive too fast for conditions and cause accidents will lose their licenses. The people who don't have the skill to drive at highway speed would not be allowed to get out there in the first place. That leaves high speed highways full of *gasp* responsible skillful drivers!

Of course, none of this will ever happen, because as was stated earlier, speeding is one of the best revenue generators in the country. Thats enough rambling from me, feel free to comment.
