Question Some quick USDM Evo 8 questions

So we know it's real fast but I have some more mundane questions that may be answerable, or not:

- will the JDM style front license plate bracket be used? (ie no blocking the intake, no drilling the damn bumper!) I ask only cos my wife decided she'd.. err "lose" her front plate (Audi A4 1.8Tq) only to discover three giant ragged ugly holes in the front bumper. I plugged 'em, but I was so pissed at the dealer for doing that to a brand new car.

- Having rather stupidly neglected to sit in the damn thing at the LA Auto Show when I had the chance, I'd like to know how the pedal layout is for heel-toeing - I assume very good.

- Given their similarities, is it likely that a lot of Evo VII accessories/upgrades will fit the VIII? I'm thinking initially of those rear lights.. I just like the VII ones a lot better (I'm not looking for an argument about it, mind - if you love the new lights and think they're awesome, great). But also stuff like gauge pods, turbo timer harnesses, etc. In other words, something of a ready-made aftermarket.

- What's the stereo like? (ie, not bad for a stocker/crap however you dice it/etc)

Thanks! Hey I should get my VIN tomorrow Fingers crossed.

rumor has it (through a few members here) that the tails for the 7 will fit the 8, and are on the order of $200 a pop from europe.

i never thought i'd find myself spending that kinda money on light changes on a car, but...

Sit in a Lancer and you'll get the layout for the pedals and the cockpit area in general. As for the stereo, last time I saw a pic, it used the same Lancer headunit as well but I'm not to sure on the speakers. As for parts, it's essentially an Evo VII revised to fit with US crash standards.

Yeah, the only stereo pics I've seen on the 8 were with generic Mitsubishi CD players. It ain't bad. I can only assume the same paper speakers...which ain't bad for what they are either.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I can actually shed some light/clarify. I know that the stereo is the same 140W 6-spkr system as is stock in the LS (and therefore I'm sure will use the same harness) but the question is, I suppose, is it any good I'm by no means a car audio fanatic, but I like a system to sound decent. I'll probably end up replacing the speakers sooner or later. The front door and rear deck speakers are 6.5" (or 6.75" I guess), in case anybody was wondering.

Interesting that the pedals are the same as a stock Lancer. I dunno if that's good or bad but I haven't heard any complaints so I assume good.

As for the VIN, I haven't been proactively chasing it. They might have had it for a while, or not. I'll call Monday and find out for sure. My ship date is 3-3-03, getting to the dealer within a few days of that anyway.
Huh.. 3/3/03 is a week on Monday. (!)

Yea, I think the stock radios in all 's cars are pretty good for what you get. I think a lot of people will be impressed by it. afterall does have an affiliation with Infinity who makes their radios.

so the illumination on the stock head unit isn't "tuned" to match the evo's gauge illumination? i thought that was peanuts for most mfgs...
