2006 Corvette or 2006 Evo IX?
So glad I caught this post!
I just sold my Z06 to get my EVO MR. Honestly, if values didn't drop so fast on the C5 Z06 after the C6 came out, I wouldn't have considered selling it. But, as the Z06 was the most car I could afford, I had to stay ahead of the depreciation curve and sell it. It was the best car I have ever had! Great on street....Better on track!
Now, that said.....based on your question, price is not a factor: So, the answer.....
Vette hands down....does it all from stock better in every category. But, on this forum, price has to be an issue or most of us would be driving Vettes....so the answer is....
EVO MR or IX.....Only if you are a track junky! The few of us who are experienced track guys love the EVO for it's rally inspired technology drivetrain and computer enhancing technology. The fact Mitsu put all the money into this and skimped on the interior is okay with us. Because money is an issue, over time, for the difference in cost of a vette, you could upgrade your evo very well for $15,000-$20,000.
PROOF! I drove my EVO MR at Texas World Speedway with almost identical times as my '02 Z06 and passed every other Z06 along the way!!!!!! I spent about the same in upgrades too on each car....about $7000.
Now, off the track, the Vette still sets you apart in a higher class as you cruise the roads......and all the girls come running!!!!!! But, I am married and the track is where I like to shine! Ha!

Those cars are two totally different animals. Depending on what you value in a car, one or the other will be the completely wrong decision for most people.
I test drove a C5 Z06 because there was a deal on one and my Evo was still new enough to get almost all my money back. Here was my experience:
As soon as I got in, I knew I was in a gigantic Chevy. Compared to the Evo, it felt like I was sitting in a low-slung armchair. Plush leather and electronic do-dads abound. Time to back up; I can't see anything. Time to pull out of the driveway; I'm halfway in the road before I can see around the bush because the hood is 5 miles long. I scraped the front at stock ride-height going out of the dealership's driveway which struck me as odd considering it wasn't that steep of a slope. The salesperson that accompanied me just shrugged like they all do that, so off we go toward the freeway. I quickly noted the number of times I had to turn the steering wheel was more than I normally would in the Evo. Stop & go traffic is a breeze with such a torquey engine, but shifting was kind of a chore. The shifter is placed far up toward the dash, required a lot of effort, and had rather long throws. The clutch felt somewhat numb; I could only tell when it was engaging by the movement of the car. But I never feared stalling it like I would in my car. The thing has torque from like 100rpm.
OK, so onto the onramp and the freeway, time to see what she's made of. It's a medium constant-radius uphill turn, and the roar from the engine is deeper than any 4 banger's wet dream. I am pulling significant g forces with no noticeable body roll, and the salesman is squirming wondering if he's going to see his wife & kids ever again. That's his problem though I didn't ask him to come along
. The main problem was, I knew the thing could perform, and it was doing so, it's just that it wasn't telling me anything through the controls. OK, straight part onto the freeway, full throttle & man that thing flies. Hit the brakes and it tracked straight back down to sane speeds. The salesperson actually asks politely that I not kill him. Fair enough, I did all I wanted to do anyway.
After I putted back & parked it (with a couple stoplight take-offs in between, which I screwerd up trying to row the shifter) and the poor guy recovered, he quickly started his salesman mode again. He asked how much I would take it for. I replied quite honestly that I wouldn't even do it if it was a straight trade. Really not even if he threw in a few thousand on top of it. I think the Evo is just more fun to drive for me personally. The steering, the communication, the sheer LUNACY of driving a 4 door 4 banger with all that capability. It's just a different car. It's focused on the execution of one thing and does it exceptionally well, to the detriment of most other functions of a car. For most people, the Vette is an obvious choice. For me, it's the Evo but I definitely wouldn't recommend most people buy one. It's a niche car, and it just so happens it's the niche I fit in myself.
Bottom line, I think you should go with the Vette

First off- Your talking about an EVO VIII, and this guy is considering an EVO IX which should be even faster.
Second off- Your wrong about the brakes, the EVO VIII does out brake the C6 Vette, and I have no doubt that the EVO IX will have the same or better braking abilities. You forget or simply didn't even know (shame on you if your spreading stuff you haven't researched) that the EVO has some of the best brakes on a production car.
Third- Handling, now that's up in the air, because the EVO VIII is an awesome handling car, and it's more than just skidpad numbers (I certainly hope you understand that). Not taking anything away from the C6 Vette, but don't underestimate the EVO. Now a Z06 is a different story, but were not talking about a Z06 are we?
Fourth- Your saying it takes $15-20K to beat a stock C6 Vette, get the f*ck out here dude, your clearly a troll and not hear to learn sh*t about the EVO. Your just hear to spread negative unfactual BS. The C6 stock is a 12.6-12.7@112-114MPH car, Warrtalon with $900 in mods recently ran 12.2@110MPH.
Fifth- Wrong forum to talk about NOS. Nitrous is not big in the EVO community, and telling us that a car ran low 11s with a 125 Shot, impresses no one.

No, I didn't say it took 15-20K to beat a stock C6, I said they have 2 shops that have taken C6's and run low 11's@125-127mph for under 2K. For a EVO to beat that consistantly/reliablily would take 15-20K of course this includes installation too.
Wrong forum to talk about nitrous.......I never said I was a juice junkie either did I? I'm just telling you what's available. I did say for me I would pick the EVO too, but again you have rosy colored mind altering glasses on that are making you see the EVO seem more than what it is.
Lastly 3000ways before you start jumping around talking equality go look at some track times for various road courses for C6's and EVO's. What about OnelapofAmerica since you like to talk theory instead of real world track results or drag numbers. AMS EVO has everything and didn't even come close to Heads/Cam, full exhaust, lightened Z06 of Danny Popp go read the results on Onelap and go read the cars mods on Z06vette.com.
