"Cleanest" GAS ?

Four of the world's top automakers, BMW, General Motors, Honda, and Toyota recognize that the current EPA minimum detergent requirements do not go far enough to ensure optimal engine performance.

TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline Retailers
Gasoline retailers must meet the high TOP TIER standards with all grades of gasoline to be approved by the automakers as providing TOP TIER Detergent Gasoline.

In addition, all gasoline outlets carrying the brand of the approved retailer must meet the TOP TIER standards.

Additional gasoline retailers are added to the TOP TIER list as they meet the standards. The retailers known to be on the TOP TIER list are shown below.

TOP TIER Gasoline Retailers:

QuikTrip
Chevron
Conoco
Phillips
76
Shell
Entec Stations
MFA Oil Company

i was reading Aug05 issue of car and driver and thought this was informative for us EVO drivers.

also bear in mind this does not mean that getting this particular brand of gas will give your car any more resistance to knock than the cheapo gas at the pump down the street. This jsut means that they have the detergents specified, and probably burn cleaner. Doesnt necessarily it's the best gas.

i get gas at the cheapest place in town, cowboys and their gas is more than perfect.

if the octane rating of a gas is wrong at a station, i think there are some penalties they may be facing.

Agree 100%. In fact I saw this episode on the Discovery Channel about refineries and how gasoline is processed. The conclusion was gas is gas. The only difference was the detergent that they put before it gets to the pumps. All companies has a minimum standard that is set. So if a certain company put more additives than is required, they become part of the "top teir" gas.

I have Chevron, Shell, and 76 all near by. YES! But 76 had some problems with their fuel recently so I steer away from them sometimes.
