Will Evos be thief magnets?

I'm concerned that the carbon-fiber wing and the HID headlamps will attract thieves.

HID theft has been a major issue with 2k2 and 2k3 Nissan Maximas. Thieves rip out the entire headlight housings and sell them on Ebay. These OEM housings contain the starters and ballasts necessary for HID operation. The problem is major enough that I know people that have had their HIDs stolen more than once. There have even been HID theft-prevention kits developed that intend to secure the headlight housings to the car, but they have varying levels of effectiveness.

Do you think the carbon-fiber wing and HID headlamps will serve as thief magnets? How hard will it be to remove the tall wing in a hurry? If a thief can do it in less than 30 seconds, they probably won't care that your aftermarket shock alarm is going off.

i can see those things as targets, i would def. invest in a sweet security system and spend the extra money on premium parking when i go out.

Won't insurance companies protect that? After all, they are part of the original car, not aftermarket parts.

Yea...your insurance should cover everything that is damaged or stolen on your vehicle...depends on what type of insurance though

Even though they are covered by insurance, do you really want to be replacing them more than once, or even ever?
HIDs have been stolen from a Maxima even when parked in the owner's driveway. I don't know how the headlamp housings in the Evo are attached to the car, but without significant reinforcement, it may only slow a thief down a little. Having an alarm that can sense shock and an open hood might be the best way to discourage a thief.
How does the carbon fiber wing attach to the car? Are there bolts from inside the trunk?

oh yea i sure think so. my bf had his wing stolen off his 200sx a few years back. he has a galant now and those asses even broke in to his car and stole friggin burnt cd's i made for him. if they go as low as to breaking into a car just to steal burnt cd's, they'll def go for the wing, HIDs, etc.

The most commonly stolen cars are also the most popular (with large production quantities). Cars like the camry, where parts are expensive, are prime targets.
The EVO may get vandilized, but I don't think you will see any profesional thiefs after them.

i agree i would doubt they even mess with the hid's because it's not common who wants to unload parts nobody really wants. so in a sence why waste time stealn' em.

but of course the hood you live in may also have somthn' to do with it, crack headz steal everything.

Uh, they might not steal your stuff, but it can make the insurance rates go up on your car. Insurance companies have to pay claims for stolen goods, so they'll pass on the cost to you.
