actually the evos dont really make more than 280 hp. Ive looked at a lot of evo rr charts (dyno graphs to us americans) and there actual hp @ the wheels is not very impressive. It is very low 200's so unless they are loosing more than 70 hp from the drivetrain I would say that 280 is not really an underestimate. Just to compare my taurus sho which is probably about 245 hp at the crank put out 204 hp to the wheels but it has a lot less drivetrain loss than an evo.

I have a conspiracy theory.
Do you think the original poster of this thread was a Mitsubishi Marketing guy, trying to see if $32k is acceptable?

heres the deal

I have an Evo 7 in my name already in indianapolis, however it is not realeased until july 2, and i have the second in my name which will be in july 29th, the april date that Sal is giving everyone is BS, of you want proof of the paperwork, i can post it, i have it in writing from my dealer about the release date, my deposit and everything...if anyone wants to see it just ask. Also, they said the GSR will run about $26,500, but they dont know the exact bhp, ot torque figures yet.

I wouldn't say anything now after what happened to the Honda/Acura Integra Type R back in 1996 or 1997.

The car really came similar to the JDM one, without the Recaro Seat, and the Momo steeling wheel, 15" instead of 16" wheel, and it cost MSRP 23500 and normally, dealer sell them for nearly 28000 at that time.

From the price list I got for the 1999 ITR, the MSRP is no more then 2620100 yen (And I do believe it's without auto tax, etc). And that will be very similar to 23500 US dollars too.. But without that 2 Recaro seat, let's say 2000 difference??, the Momo steeling wheels is like 300 difference, and the wheel.. probably 100 to1500 difference..

And that's very similar to ir's original form of JDM ITR..

I would say let's just wait until there is really a price came out with some full details of the cars, equipment, then we can say it's $$$$. Othwerise, Mitsubishi said under 30k( or some mag said, I forgot.. too confused now.. ) is all bs because it did mention that it will keep it's original form as possible.....

But I am still happy that they are bringing the EVO VII in..

Well the Japanese limit is 280hp and there is no real 'limiter' but things are done to the engine to make it run under that limit. For example: when the 300ZX TT was produced for some odd reason it had to conform to Japans standards the engineering geniuses put hideous dents in the turbo inlet pipes in order to decrease air flow so that it would be under 280hp. Something similar may have been done to the Lancer I know all you have to do for the 300ZX TT was either replace the pipes or remold them. Lets pray it’s as simple as that.

As for the 32k price tag, I don’t think its that big of a deal. You get an extra 65hp (based on the earlier rumors) and that’s enough to smoke just about any other car out there.

BTW, hello, this is my first post

32k is not a good price

Remember, anything above 32k you have to pay
added cost for LUXURY tax which is another 10%.
I think it is 10% if I'm right. Correctly if I'm wrong.

So 32,000 + 3,200 + state tax + license and
registration = rather to much.

This is of course not including if the dealer decide
to jack the price up.

Somehow I got the feeling that this little toy is
going to be to expensive just to be a daily car.
Should this price tend to be true, it is more
logical to get a used one.

My devaluated 2 cents.

leave it at 280 and keep the price below 30K, I'll be happy. I don't want to pay no luxury tax and all that mumbo jumbo. ffs, its just a tiny car.

Tax is "3% of the amount the car's purchase price exceeds $40,000."

I don't see how it can have so much power.. With our Octane so low, and they have to be in a margin of safety.
