:soapbox: Hey there...I just went to the auto show in Chicogo IL. and talked to the Mitsubishi Tech guys and they siad it will be around 280 and cost at about 28? I cant belive taht it would cost 30,000+ Then I would ust buy a WRX and do engine mods! Wouldnt you guys buy a WRX and just do that? I think I am just going to buy a WRX anyway and do engine mods right away so it would be faster than the Lancer too then! I dont know yet but I do love the Lancer and the WRX! SOMEBODY HELP ME PICK ONE PLEASE! EMAIL ME SOON AT LANCEREVO@PRODIGY.NET !!!!!!!!
The only problem with :cough: ugly :cough, cough: doing mods to the WRX is because of WHY it has less horsepower. Subaru changed some very important and costly things, (ie. smaller turbo) so it's potential is nowhere the same as a Japan spec WRX or Evo.
Off Topic side note: I really miss the older style WRX. Had it still been around I would be having a hard time picking between the Evo VII and a WRX.

april is a long time away :(
April 2003 is a year away, then the waiting list and limited numbers. Getting a WRX seems like a better and better idea - unfortunately. Especially with the way Mitsu dealers are trying to screw customers on this.
Hmmm.....I'm gonna go and check these out during the weekend thats the first thing I'm gonna do. I'm not far away from Pomona or Ontario I'm gonna try to bring a digicam too and take a couple of pictures
I hope they don't mark up the price's to high when it comes out I'll be freaking pissed

Oh yee of little faith.
Dont waste your time. I dont think they have it there anymore. This was wuite a while back and I spoke to the manager via email about it. A month ago it was no longer there. Call before you go to avoid the disappointment.

Come on people, I'm sure were going to be pleased with the final product, hp and price that brings a smile to our face. Remember, it's in there best interest to do that, they want to make us happy. I don't think anyones going to be angry with the final result.

Seriously though the 4G63 has been around for at least 12 years now. Sure they gave us a variable intake manifold. Yeah they flipped the motor around in 98??? That helped the transmission a lot for sure. The VII brought along a bigger IC. Still we are working with the same basic motor design that we have been staring at in the US for years. Looking at the EVO turbo specs, they have only been getting smaller since the V came out. I think Mitsubishi has made small incremental efficiency improvements that allow them to keep the hp around 280 but run a smaller turbo to improve spool up. What incentive does Mitsubishi have to design a new block if they are stuck with a 280 hp limit anyway?
Quoting the NOV 2001 Sport Compact Car.
EVO VI
1/4 mile 12.9 @ 106 mph
Weight 2998 lb
EVO VII (apparently not under ideal conditions)
1/4 mile 13.6 @ 100 mph
Weight 3086 lb
Using the following formula:
http://www.dsm.org/tools/calchp.htm
Check out the results for the VI
Using the ET method, I come up with 276 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 279 horsepower
Check out the results for the VII
Using the ET method, I come up with 242 horsepower
Using the Speed method, I come up with 241 horsepower
That's a good hp calculator. Seems to be the closest to accurate yet. Only thing is, I have seen a best time of 12.7 for the Evo VII in the 1/4 mile, which brings the hp up to 298, much closer to what people have been saying.
