I did a bunch of research on foam vs. cotton gauze filters years ago. The foam in some cases will outflow the cotton filter but only comparing the same square inches of filter. Take the HKS style filter that is open on the end made of foam. If you take the time to figure the square inches of the filter and multiply it by the CFM the foam flows and then take the square inches of a cotton gauze filter and do the same you will find that typically a cotton gauze filter will outlfow the foam filters by a large margin. The style filter I am referring to was open on the ends with basically no side to it. Same thing they use on the EVO's now I think.

A company is only going to tell you what they want to to know to sell you parts, atleast most companies.

I just went and looked at the link you put up. That style foam filter could very well outflow an equally sized cottom foam filter, that filter is open on the end and all around the sides, that is not how HKS's is.

We have used some of those here, I don't feel the filtering is as good, just from what I have seen accumulate in the intakes while running them. Flow wise though, it would probably flow more than a cotton.

That takes us to the next issue, if you have a filter that will flow 1,000 cfm and a turbo that can only suck 500 cfm, what was the use of putting it on

I'd dyno my filter and MAF pipe against theirs.

Ok well i'll give you my maf pipe and filter and you can dyno it. One of my friends is taking my car to your dyno day/bbq, so you can get then. I'll put a bet of $10 that the weapon-r intake makes better results. You up for it, let me know.

I would be willing to bet that you would bet against our products no matter who were going to dyno against. That is bet I can win for sure. Stop hating.

David - when I m in FL, CA, AZ or sandy areas and I do a cam swap - I always find SAND inside the fmic pipes of cars with the HKS intake - its a great unit for perfromance but not as good at filtration of sand

The results would be similar compared to the HKS - IF you tuned the a/f to match as the HKS significantly duistorts the maf reading in the middle of the power band. The HKS is a good intake - its just OVER PRICED AND does not filter that well - IMHO - I prefer the Buchur set up = best idle and very consistant tune

Thanks for the input on the sand, that is the same thing I notice hear. The foam style filters do NOT filter the air as well. This isn't worth the extra wear the engine is going to see for the extra flow. Just run a larger cotton gauze style filter and accomplish the same thing.

HKS filters WILL NOT catch sand. I have seen it personally as well.

HAHAH

I have always heard at a certain mile marker on the odometer the car is retaxed based on its original value. That tax is so high that 99% of the time it becomes more cost effective to strip the car and buy a new one. Thats what I heard anyway. dont know how much truth is in it.
