Aftermarket HID install on non-HID 05 EVO 8 failure.

I bought a new 8000K VHO HID kit for my evo 8.

my question is how do you remove the fatory headlight assembly w/o removing the bumper??

There is absolutely no room back there to even remove the stock 9006 low-beam bulb!!!

I dont even wanna risk damaging my HID bulbs either so I plan to remove the headlight housings first.

can anyone help?

Bumper has to come off if you want the lights out Which means you'll have to remove the lower tray first.

naaahhh i need HID's..

ohh well, i guess I'll save this project for this weekend. since I'm taking the bumper off I might as well tighten the oem intercooler clamps as well.

I will be in stalling an HKS EVC 5 and 3" JIC spartan CBE and test-pipe as well..

dont sweat it.. you dont "actually" have to remove the lower tray to get the bumper off... in fact.. i just took mine off and didn't even jack the car up... take off the bolts up top that you see right when you pop the hood... take off the two philips screws behind the wheels (two on each side) .. there will also be a bolt you unscrew (10mm) on each side of the wheels as well... then unscrew the 2 bolts on the intercooler... then duck your head under the car.. you will see a bunch of little black plastic looking screws... with a flat head or pliers you just pull them out.. there will be exactly 10 total that you need to remove.. just remove the ones directly on the bumper... pull the bumper down... and presto.. it's off.. (watch out for the IC sprayer attachment on the left... before you yank the bumper all the way off make sure you disconnect the line.. you will see what i am talking about)...

Dont be afraid to do it... it is a lot more menacing than it may seem

Any questions or if you need pics or anything just pm me

I have an 05, I dont think i'll have to worry about the intercooler sprayer.

why did mitsubishi have to make it a pain to take out even the stock headlight bulbs?

anyhow, once I remove the factory headlight housing, it'll be easier and safer for me to install the HID bulbs.

I also need to remember to upgrade the low-beam fuses to 20amps

Is that safe? I'd rather blow fuses that risk a short circuit, even a fire.

You only have to remove the front most clips from the undertray (10 clips). I took my time the first time, but I just recently took bulbs out. It took me 15 minutes to take the bumper off.

How to take front bumer off...

as the others said, bumper's gotta go.

I've installed HIDs into my 2005 GSR (w/o SSL) w/ no problems.
