Notchy Shifter

Does the shifter get a little more fluid and smooth as the car is broken in? It just seems kinda clunky right now. Maybe it's just because it's a shorter throw than I was used to before.

it gets a little better I guess. . I'm at 1500 miles now. . . .I like to row through the gears for a bit on start up, get the gear fluid all over the synchros, etc. . .that usually helps get rid of SOME of the notchiness. . . .it's not Honda-snick-snick, but it's pretty good. . . .

Get some GM synchroshift or some penzoil synchromesh (very similar products). That will help out alot.

Good suggestion, I'll do that as well. I know it's not the cold temperatures!

yeah I know man, I was in Dallas last weekend, freakin' cookin' up there, just as hot as it is here in Houston. . .

I don't know if the dealership will void any sort of TSB thing on the synchro's if you change out the gear fluid though. . .experts chime in?? I'd get the 4-5 TSB done before you make a switch. . .

Your shifter will get a lot smoother as you drive around more. I got 18K miles on my 03, and I still hear clunking noise when I shift from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd, but it goes away after I drove for a few minutes...

If I replaced it with the syncomesh or syncoshift, are these the instructions to change it?

Mine has gotten less notchy as it's been broken in, 1600 miles now. Still not butter smooth shifts like my GSX but that's the sacrifice we make for the durability.

Mines notchy but once its warmed up it gets smoother. I just try not to shift to quick when just after just starting the car.

The shifting action will never be "Honda smooth", but you will get used to it. It is normal.

Thanks!

I'm not shooting for Honda smooth, just want to minimize the clunky feeling as much as possible.
