Dented oil pan

Well I did something stupid. Trying to jack up the car with a normal jack and it was really hard to do. I stupidly jacked up the car on the oil pan because for some reason it looked like a good spot. After I had the car jacked up and could see under it I noticed that I had jacked it up on the oil pan. Quickly put stands on car and released the jack. The only thing it did was put a small dent in the oil pan. I am guessing the dent is about knickel sized and goes in less than 1/4 inchs. My question is did I screw anything up or is that ok?

I guess you'll find out if you get an oil leak and/or engine vibration from stressed motor mounts ...Your description kind of makes me cringe though, did you slap your palm against your forehead several times while saying, "Stupid, Stupid, stupid" after the fact?

Sure did.

I just got done changing the oil in my girlfriends car which was a gigantic pain because she has a cartridge oil filter . So I was pissed and didn't spend the time to do mine correctly.

I am still hitting myself on the head especially since I have less than 3,000 miles on it.

if your stuck on using the oil pan on any car use a piece of wood or something to distribute the weight.

no leaks...no problems.

to be honest just find the jacking points.

So I just have to be worried about leaks?

I am definately going to get some ramps. I have just never had a car where the jack doesn't fit underneath . I will check for leaks the next couple days. Thanks for the advice guys.

Shady, you'll be alright tho. Just keep an eye out for oil leaks on the ground. I pushed up the floor board b4, thinking i was jacking up the frame rail. Weve all done something similar. You learn quickly.

Just think of it as custom baffling. Don't sweat it too much... you'll prolly just hold a little less oil in your pan. You know those wimpy looking rails under your car with the little dents in them? That's the jack point.
