Well... we dyno'd it :)
Ok who is Shiv? Does he work for a magazine or somthing, I cant remember where I read what he does, but he sounds like he has respect from many on here. So I welcome his opinion.
Anyways my evo8 feels fast enough for me,,, big time.
Just by feathering the gas it wants to run. And I havnt gone over 5kat all and Im keeping it around 4k 95% of the time. So really i havnt even gotten on it yet!
So what im saying and going to do is.......... I dont care if this car got 145hp on this dyno! Im not playing the whp game, I simply dont care. This car has more power on the streets than one can use, but if you are racing it on a track you can always get/use more power.
But Im not saying if Mits. has underated the power , and they get busted for it, i wouldnt mind somthing like, extra warrenty or cash back, or for them to put/fix it to the true hp ratings. Didnt ford rework their headers to get the true hp ratings, and didnt mazda give cash back/or warrenty to their miata owners?
Time will tell, but for me its a non-issue!
Thank you very much

And again you need to look at real world track numbers and not a dyno hp reading.
the EVO should be getting around 200hp on the dyno dynamics, comparably to a WRX.
Where did the 20 hp go?

Here's some other dyno results, from other AWD cars on our dyno, that may be good for comparisons sake:
Stock AWD turbo Eclipse/Talons: 145-150 wheel hp
Stock Audi S4s: 170-180 wheel hp
Stock WRX: 155-160 wheel hp
Stock EVO VII import: 212-230 wheel hp (pinging due to 91 octane)
With the exception of the EVO VII, we've dyno'd many many examples of each car so we can ignore the possibilities that we are dealing with abberations. Even with the EVO 8, we've only dyno'd 3 which still isn't enough to jump to any conclusions.
But we're dyno testing our fourth EVO VIII today. We'll see if it follows the trend.
Best Regards,
Shiv

I'm not a car expert by any means, but I would suspect that gasoline grade is greatly affecting the numbers. Here on the East Coast, we have nice Sunoco 94, which I'd love to see running in the Evo on the dyno. They even said that the engine was knocking with 91... not good. I'll wait until someone does a dyno with some better gas before I really believe the numbers.

I just got some number of the WRX web site. Please have in mind that a WRX can be purchased for almost 10,000 dollars less than a EVO and yes the EVO is a better car but hey $10k is $10k

Ok, you don't have to twist my arm:
Depending on the dyno you use...
AWD Dyno Dynamics says about 162whp
AWD Dynapack says about 175whp
AWD Mustang says about 180whp
AWD Dynojet says about 190whp
P.S. Add what Josh said about calibration, altitude, weather, etc

I suspect Dynpack revised their software to be more closely in-line with the "industry standard" Dynojet. So we may have to eventually revise our HP Equalizer guide (and it is just a guide) to account for that.

LoL
It is Wheel Horsepower for the Neon SRT-4. They underrated it a good bit..... It runs the ¼ in about 14.0 @ 102mph, so it has to have some ***** to run those times!

When they say the Neon had 220hp, its not 220 whp. I would guess its more like 150-160whp, or am I just way off base here

So based on Shiv's numbers a stock WRX would have 255 EVO horsepower. As an evo enthusiast this is rather dissapointing.

We are looking at a 20hp difference between the EVO and the WRX when it should be more like 50hp. Is somebody taking this to Mitsu or do we have to wait for more testing??
Com'on ppl this is wheel hp on the most low reading but accurate dyno. If 94 octane gas does bring it up to 188hp that is really close to 271. I'd bet it'll hit exactally at 271hp after breaking it in. Aprox. 190 hp on shiv's dyno.
