I don't think people are reading, why does everyone recommend an intake as the first mod??? it is NOT needed!!!

i agree that it is not necessary. like i said before, the stock intake is good for 400hp+ . but a higher flowing filter will improve fuel economy and performance. even if it is slight, it is still an improvement.

the same could be said for an exhaust, it is not necessary to increase horsepower. Horsepower comes from the engine not the intake/ exhaust system. After all, the exhaust and intake systems themselves do not add horsepower, they only reduce it. Intake and exhaust systems decrease performance to varying degrees based of flow characteristics and design.

The ideal setup as far as the least amount of flow impedence would be no intake or exhaust system at all; just air entering straight into the turbo and exhaust exiting right out of the turbo. This presents many problems including a lack of a place for the MAF and no vortex that the intake system produces for the MAF to function optimally. Also an exhuast system provides a place for sensors and adds low end torque and noise supression among other things. Basically, any aftermarket intake/ exhaust with improved flow characteristics will always hinder optimal performance but to a lesser degree than the stock parts.

You could build a very powerful motor and still run the stock exhaust and intake. No one does this because there would be a dramatic improvement in horsepower and turbo spool with an improved exhaust/ intake system.

welcome aboard! I used to be a honda boy too. they're great cars to learn on.

The Buschur Stage 1 is a good startng point for increasing the performance of your Evo. Plus the price is right.

okay if you want efficiency and longevity for your motor and turbo. YOU NEED A CATCH CAN, also you would want to get a turbo timer. ITS SUPER CHEAP and its super easy to install. Next the ECU which is by far one of the best things you could do hands down. A reflash would be perfect for daily driver.

Aren't catch cans merely a drag racing mod required only so you don't get oil all over the track? I never really read into them because i thought they were just a requrement for drag racing. Correct me if i'm wrong, what do they do?

thanks everyone again for posting on my thread. i already have a boost gauge. still tyrin to read about exhust. don't know what one to use. i like the AMS TBE, but it kind of costly. the buscher TBE seemd like it was built with left over parts they had at their shop. don't get me wrong on this but the do have good gains from what i have seen on their web site.then thier is the invidia tbe i hear that exhust has a life time warranty. and when i do my intake i will do a flash first.
