Bone stock IX goes 12.89

True. And it is irrelevant what he thought the 100 octane was going to do to his car. Emprical data is the only merchant of truth in this argument and there is none so far. You can hope, pray, wish and believe all day long that putting 100 octane in the tank is going to get you another .1 second of your ETs but until you have a way to monitor timing you have no idea.
I think we will see more 12.8X passes as the 06's become more available.
Every year when a newer version of the same thing comes out there is a stuggle between early model owners and current model owners over which version is faster stock. We went through this ad nauseum on Maxima.org when the VQ35 came out.

um... you do realize that octane is not a measure of power.
"The octane value of a fuel is an empirical measure of its ability to resist detonation and, to a limited extent, preignition. Technically, octane ratings measure a fuel's ability to resist the spontaneous ignition of unburnt end-gases under controlled test conditions." taken from here: http://www.prime-mover.org/Engines/G...es/octane.html
there is no power difference between running 91,93,94,100, etc octane fuel. where you get the power is from more agressive timing/more boost due to the lower chance of knocking/detonation.
since he said nothing about increasing boost, changing timing, etc, it is safe to say that those times were stock... assuming he has a time slip to show us.

But I do see what others are saying. 100 octane has no bearing on making a car not stock. But it is something out of the ordinary. So I consider it a power adder, kind of like nitrous, of course not as potent.

i just have to add this because you all are turning the evom forums into the freaking SRT-4 forums. octane is a KNOCK INDEX. the higher the octane the more resistnt it is to knock. wanna know why? higher octane burns slower. unless you can take advantage of the higher octane (up the boost or advance the timing) higher octane can actually HURT your power due to the fact that it burns slower. if you gain power buy just dumping high octane in your car then your tuning is messed up. either you have your timing too far advanced and it knocks on pump gas and not on high octane, or your car knocking on pump from the factory. and to prove this, in MY CAR, running the same boost and timing with 91 vs 100, i loose on average .1-.2. but if i advance the timing or up the boost (or both) i can gain upwards of .4 seconds. and yes, ive tryed this. most of you evo guys have sooooooo much to learn it hurts my head. i joined this site because i will be joining the ranks of evo owners sometime in the future, but damn, some of you guys give all the smart people bad reps. my advice to all of you who just drive your evo and know nothuing about the way it works, or any car works for that matter is search the internet to learn some before you talk out of your buttholes. theres a wealth of knowlege out there, and the people who know a thing or two only did it by wanting to learn, so GET TO IT and stop posting rubbish.

not necessarily true, mitsubishi ecu's have something called octane value reset. also, every evo has the same tune from the factory. if, for some reason the ecu sees knock, then yes, it will learn to not advance timing as much, only until the octane value is reset or the ecu is reset. in theory every car should behave the same. bad gas and things will throw that off. but people calling high octane a "mod" is absolutely retarded. if anything at all, higher octane is just letting the car do what its supposed to do stock
dont know how late i am in this thread, i only read scarcely up until the 5th page, and i just would like to congradulate anyone who has been able to drive a stock 4g63 powerd car to a 12 second time slip, thats great. and to me 100 octane is not a mod due to the fact that there might be an instance where you might only be able to put 100 octane unleaded in your car. and you can deffinitely drive it in the streets no problem. furthermore there are cars that come from the factory with a fuel system that support ethanol fuel suply. and thats alchy.
i like the evo 9 theres a black one at shelton mitsubishi for anyone from the southern ct area that would like to check one out. it looks very good.

fatheroftheevo, you should practice what you preach and learn some stuff before you post. What I posted is true and evo specific. And fyi your galant has much more in common with dsm's than evo so I would hardly call it father of the evo.
