Back in the days

Back in the day when was about 16yrs in 1995 i started to get into the import scene. From then they had this saying that racers don't " TINT" their windows....... though i never understood, i grew into it though. Most of my cars i have had in the past were Integras and Crx's had not tint Now about 10yrs later does anyone think that as a fad at all? Or is it still around. I own an Evolution myself but don't have tint. I guess i'm just old school. Or was it just my crowd i hung out with back in the days?

I live in TX, every car I've owned since I've lived here and probably 80% of the cars on the road are tinted. More of a necessity than a fad here.

There is nothing wrong with now, nor has there ever been anything wrong with tinting your windows. Sure it is money that could be spent on tires, oil, brakes, etc. if your car is nothing but a race car. It not only enhances the looks, but also helps keep your car cooler on those hot days, and helps keep your interior from fading as quickly.

I have never heard of that saying, but then again if you have a pure race car, and all it sees is the track, there is no need for tint, it would hurt visibility in fact if it was dark. If you are wanting to tint your windows, and you use it for more than just a track/race car, than by all means - do it. Cars with tint look better.

I've never tinted any windows on the cars I've owned. I don't like the interior so dark when driving, tint changes color when it gets old and looks nasty. When I park I have sunshades for the front and rear. Plus all cars already come from the factory with a light UV tint on the windows.

depending on where you live it might be valuable to tint your windows to protect your interior

I did mine at 35% also. I wish I could do it 20%, but there is just too much attention with it. I'd be afraid to drive my car, just waiting for the police to pull me over.

You mean 10%. The number represents the amount of light that is allowed through.

Ahh, good thinking if you in Hawaii. I did this white water rafting trip this summer with 3 of my friends, and we were out on the river for like 8 hours. I didn't put any sunscreen on my arms...ouch. We had to drive back, and we had my friends Civis which has 20% all around. I had to sit in front though, and got even more burned
