SCC's EVO dyno'd
I've been explaining the tuning techniques that have worked for me and countless other 4G63T owners. No, I don't own a shop (therefore no agenda). No, I don't sell anything. I do tune my own car. I built the 4G63T that is in my car (using mostly stock Mitsubishi parts). In fact, I've done all the work on my car. I've never taken my car to a tuning shop. My car is a street car. I have daily driven it for over 90,000mi now. I've added modifications step by step over 6 years.
And I've saved money by learning what works BEFORE spending money on parts. Will the stuff I am posting work with the Evo 100%? Probably not. But a lot of it probably will. DSMs and Evos do have a lot in common.
Are you worse off for hearing the stuff I'm posting? I'll leave that up to you.
But personally, I don't feel that information sharing is a bad thing.
I don't plan on buying an Evo. I'd love to, but it isn't in the cards for me right now.

Well, since DSMLink will not work with an Evo, you've managed to waste a lot of bandwidth here.

The Evo ECU might be quite similar. I'm sure we will know in time, especially with Tom Dorris owning an Evo. But he had better get DSMLink V2 out before he gets too enfatuated with his new car.

Again, if you would rather not learn, then don't read my posts.

Since I am the oldest and wise (***) in the forum I feel "What we have here .... is a failure to communicate" (Cool Hand Luke).
The one common bond between you guys is passion for cars. What do you think would happen if Shiv and Hor and Shapegsx got together at Shiv's place with an EVO and a case of their favorite beverage? In about 5 hours Shiv would learn enough 4g63 trivia to save 30 dyno runs. Shape and Hor would get an opportunity to see real time engine dynamics courtesy of a high fidelity dyno and a skilled technician. Guarantee you guys would respect each other very quickly. At the end of the day you would be friends and drunk.
So........ start asking each other good questions. I would love to hear the answers.

BTW, I've also noticed posts that have wondered who this shiv@vishnu person is. I guess these folks are unfamiliar with the Miata, RX7 or Subaru tuning world and haven't read Sports Compact Car. Here's a brief bio published by Sheehan Motor Racing - which finished second in last year's U.S. Touring Car Championship:
I personally feel that it's good for the Evo community that shiv@vishnu is now devoting significant resources to Evo performance enhancement.
Vishnu Performance Systems was officially incorporated in the Summer of 2000 in the city of Martinez, California. Prior to that, company founder and CEO, Shiv Pathak, established himself as an industry leader in the design and tuning of high performance engine management systems. Having contracted his engine tuning skills to OEMs such as General Motors and Toyota, several professional road race/rally teams, numerous aftermarket tuning houses and hundreds of private individuals, Pathak carries with him a wealth of real world engine management know-how. This unique knowledge lead him to his next vocational area where he continues to freelance as a technical writer (product reviews, technical analysis, long-term project car testing, etc,.) for numerous automotive trade journals. With one foot firmly planted at the leading edge of industry technology and the other standing at the center of aftermarket street and race performance, Pathak has developed a reputation for bringing high-end engine control systems to the masses. Along with that, he has earned a reputation for unwavering customer support and an unblemished track record in the engine management industry.

You know, some of the negative comments about Shiv were about the same when he first approached the WRX community. Now, he is well respected in the community and I am sure that Subaru, the mothership regards his comments and suggestions with utmost value.
FWIW, give him a little time and you will see awesome performance packages for the EVO that will put it over the top and maybe, just maybe sway me away from the STi to the EVO. I guess we will all find out in a few weeks.

Would it be a big leap of faith to, even just for a second, think that driveline loss for a stock EVO (and other cars, of course) is indeed that significant.

However, the only difference between an Evo 8 drivetrain and that of an Evo 5 or 6 RS or RS2 is that the wheels (and probably the tires) are lighter on the Evo 8. Same open front diff, same rear diff, same brakes, etc. Tyres are better on the Evo 8.

I dont see why that is so difficult to understand.
And then I get people telling me the numbers are not accurate power at the wheel numbers but a reference for tuning.
However, shiv tells me the dyno IS accurate:
This is what I have a problem with:
WHEN HE HIMSELF DYNOED IT AT 190 BHP TO THE WHEELS WHICH HE STATED ARE ACCURATE.
There are only 2 possible explanations (if the dyno is accurate):
- the Evo is over rated and makes less than 271 bhp at the crank
- transmission loss has magically increased to 30%
Please tell me you understand what I mean, I'm going crazy here
