Evo model change
Evo model change
Hi all
I drive an Evo 6.5 (Tommi Makinen version) but am thinking of selling it. I have heard from various sources that the "new generation" of the Evo will be based on the Mirage (I think called a Colt in the US).
Does anybody know whether this is likely/possible. The Evo 8 won't be released in Aust for a few months yet but if the next version is based on the Mirage (Colt), I would rather wait.
Cheers

There's really no Hard evidence of Mitsubishi changing platforms for the New Evolutions. But there some rumors flying around they will change platforms. There probably still considering it, but not now. All their plans are likely to be held. We won't know until that day they Officially announce of the switch.
Rumor has it that the new platform will be the Colt.. in the US market.. I think there will be the Lancer, Colt, and the new Dodge Neon will share the same platform... Is the Colt available as a 2 door now? I don't recall seeing a COLT name plate except for the Dodge Colt.. of course, until I saw the Mitsu EVO.. I never noticed that MMC had a Lancer.. I also saw a Cedia wagon (lancer wagon) with AWD.. I would have liked to see that here in the states to compete with the WRX Wagon..

The rumor is true. In fact, that is the reason why
pulled out of the WRC. More research is going into developing a new style like the P206 that won last year. The trend seems to be going to the two door hatch style. I wouldn't be surprised if Subaru in a few years will follow this trend.
With that said. I would still prefer the EVO with four doors since the car would also be my daily driver. It is the fastest way to commute four people. Besides, I hated putting up the front seat in my car to let the back passengers get in. But hey, it is a matter of taste.

The Mirage (Colt) is available as a 2 door (over here anyway) and is a fairly popular vehicle amongst young people as it is a "cheap" car - but has only a 1.6 litre engine, normally aspirated and no special features. I heard that MML have transplanted Evo running gear into a Mirage (Colt) and although there were a few teething problems, the vehicle was a rocket and initial test driving has made a few eyebrows rise.

RalliArt Germany created a "Colt Evolution" for the 2000 Essen Motorshow in Germany:

Looks like fun.

Cool.. Thats the second "Version" I've seen.. The red one I saw in Bansai magazine (I think) I read the blurb about it and it said it was a Ralliart Design study.. but nothing about possible production version... Of course, in this day of Daimler/Chrysler's Concept to Production fastlane.. You just may see it
(BTW I'm not that proficient in german, so I may have missed something in the translation)
