Talking stupid question about the BR330...

I was reading the specs for the BR330, and marking down which changes actually contribute to the performance vs. cosmetics... and...

"performance features of your BR330"
-2.5 inch mandrel bent SS downpipe
-3 inch mandrel bent CB exhaust w/ 4 inch tip
-high flow air filter
-Reprogrammed ECU
-oil pan heat shield
-polished stainless steel exhaust manifold cover
-billet aluminum spark plug cover
-BR330 logos with serial number on fenders and deck lid

So my question is.... I currently have an Invidia 3" Cat back, and an RMR intake... so if i get a good quality 2.5" DP and a reflash, can i expect similar performance numbers as the BR330?
It seems like I should.... I guess it depends on the quality of the reflash.....
.... I also wanted to add a cat delete, and then get the reflash....
....what do you think???...

thanks.

Yes, of course. Those are just standard mods for any Evo and should provide a standard power increase, depending on the quality of the tune. You can do your cat delete before or after, because it doesn't affect the tune. You don't have to schedule your tune based off your exhaust pieces.

I also believe the 330 stands for crank hp. Not actual WHP (awhp)

I don't now if that was in question, but yes it does stand for crank HP.

Oh.... so the reflash takes into account which factors?
what about the downpipe... or intake or exhaust headers, or "outlet pipe", or "bypass valve" ... I have so much to learn.

Well if you read, he was asking if he could expect the same performance as BR330 if he has a similar list to the BR330 package. And the answer would be "YES", but it's not WHP/WTQ. Can be decieving. That's all i was saying!

If you do a "search" on the reflash, you will find your answer's. (^boost, cams, intake, etc). Not the exhaust though. Warrtalon was right about that one!

Mainly, parts that mess with the air flow ratio (AFR), such as an intake, changes in boost, and fuel (fuel pump, cams, injectors). For exhaust and BOV, a reflash is not needed, nor is it needed for intercooler pipes (upper/lower), but big mods like intake/exhaust manifolds may be a different story. Those would be much further down the line of modding, so they're not something to worry about right now.

Any reason why Dave doesn't throw a 3" downpipe on instead of the 2.5"?

Cost, I believe. He tested it and showed that there is no measurable difference in power between the two, so he just does the smaller of the two in his packages.

Warrtalon,
Does he use them in the BR350? You would think 3" would ^ flow and in-turn ^HP/TQ. But who am i to say.

No.

Package on the BR350 includes:
2.5" mandrel bent SS downpipe with the factory style donut flange.
3" mandrel bent SS catback exhaust with Magnaflow muffler.
Deluxe upper i/c pipe, polished SS, Forged BOV.
Lightweight battery kit.
BR airfilter kit.
Ported exhaust manifold, 02 housing and turbine housing.
Re-programmed ECU.
Polished SS exhaust manifold cover.
Billet spark plug cover with BR350 logo on it and serial number.
Front fender and rear deck lid BR350 badges.

Like I said, he tested both on the dyno and didn't find a compelling reason to go with 3" over 2.5", so I think putting the 2.5" on the BR 330/350 Evos was to help with cost and/or fitment.

The dealership he is working with requires the stock CAT in place, so going with a bigger than 2.5 downpipe would result in small if any increases in performance.
