question for former lancer owners

I just sat in base lancer and was rather disappointed by the cheap materials used. Does the evo's interior fair better? I realize it isn't an Audi or whatever but still I hope it's better than what i saw.

A lancer es or an oz? The oz has silver accents and a nice evo like gauge cluster.

The OZ Lancers have much better material in them, including the seats and carpeting. I believe the pattern and matterial is the same as the Evo 8 for their back seats and on the Recaros. Hope that helps. And don't downgrade us to the euro trash cars like Audi!

Nope, the material in the back of an Evo is 100% different. It's the same Recaro fabric used on the front seats.

The feel of an Evo feels so much more solid than a feel of any Lancer that I've sat in/driven. (And I've done both, a lot!) I don't know what it is, and I can't put my finger on it, but the Evo interior just feels better. (and more solid)

Thanks guys! I'll have to check an OZ model. The base lancer I was in had very cheap looking controls (vents, AC, etc) as well as dash in general looked of some cheap gray plastic. Didn't look like it would hold up very long at all.

im sure it'll hold up, but every trim of the lancers are cheaply made..there's almost no difference between the ES, LS, and OZ..just the wood or silver trim and the gauge cluster..if you're looking for luxury, this is definately not the car

but i still love my lancer!

The plastics / dash in all of the econoboxes (Civic, Corolla, Elantra, Focus, Neon, etc) are pretty similar in terms of cost and texture / feel / appearance - I don't think any of them are superlative vs the others by any significant margin. Unless the US EVO has the electric/stepper motor arrangement for the climate control temp and airflow selectors, it will have the same clunky feeling cable setup that all the other lancers have - which I am not fond of at all. After living and working in Japan for 9 months in 2000, I grew more than a bit envious of the nice electronic climate control setups and other general doodaads that were in Hilux's, Runx's, and many others.

I dunno.. I'm driving a dodge Neon now.. My new Evo (I sat in it today, pick it up tomorrow or thursday) feels alot nicer.. Most cars like this tend to have inexpensive feeling plastic parts.. but the Steering wheel and the shifter feels pretty nice, Which is where your hands will spend most of the time.. So if the rest of the materials holds up, you'll be pretty happy with it. Its amazing what a little testosterone and horsepower will do for your opinion on an interior..
