I have spoken with Buscher Racing, AMS, TurboTrix and GT Motorsport, some of the biggest names in tuning Evos, and all have recomended me to a drop in air filter. K&N are very reliable and great quality, but since there is oil on them, it may dirty up your maf sensor. The best drop in out there, although $100, is the Apexi Power Intake Filter. Great quality, maintanence free...dry filter. Get that and you wont be disappointed. I have one myself...works great.

Stay with stock. Unless you plan on running +400 hp you dont need it. If you do get an intake dont put it on until you have a tune. Spend your $300 on a MBC and a tune. you'll get a larger gain with that

The HKS racing filter is not for dd. It has barely any filtering ability. There have been tests done that show this. It's a racing filter... high flowing, low filtering. SEARCH

Yea, we all know companies would NEVER sell something that didn't work. Come on dude....performance people will try to market all kinds of stuff and tell you that you just HAVE to buy it!!! Like all the guys that run out and install aftermarket grounding kits on their cars. I love the metality that the engineers that work at Mitsubishi were to stupid to properly ground the car, so we have to go out and buy a new kit with all these pretty colors and ground it properly which will give better gas milleage, more HP, and make the car idle smoother. Its to bad that so many people have more money then sense. Keep your stock intake man, spend the money on something more benificial. Like a grounding kit! lol

Nothing new here - this is just a refresher as I still see dozens of peoplerunning HKS suction intake, ARC and Buschur all of which distort the maf sesnor reading. All aftermarket intakes need a retune of the stock ecu by a piggy back or reflash.
of course dynoflash is going to have a thread that shows you need a tune when getting an intake. especially since its his buisness selling flashes.
so for him: get an intake - buy his flash = more money in his pocket
however he didnt mention that its a must

i just dont agree with people saying you must get a flash or tune when getting just an intake.

dont get me wrong. i think its a good idea to get the most power and smoother dyno lines, but just not a necessity
