Exhaust Upgrade

I will probably be in the market for a catback exhaust and I was wondering what everyone else is putting on and why. I had an Apexi N1 on my 98 GS-T and I loved the sound and look of it. Anyways, fill me in.

Search, please.

Cat-backs are pretty much all the same. They all do the same thing and are the same basic size and shape. You can pay $350 or $800 depending on how much you care about brand names...

To a point Warrtalon is correct.

As long as you get a exhaust that is a full 3" pipe no neck downs and a straight through muffler power differences will not be great.

The best option is to choose a cat-back that you like the look and sound of.

My personal choice is the TurboXS Cat back. It has a titanium tip that looks great. The fitment and quality of it is perfect. And they are very inexpensive.

Hope this helped.

Ben

Actually, they're not inexpensive at all. Over $500 for a cat-back is ludicrous. The Megan also has a burnt tip and is only $350, or you can get the entire TBE for $550. That's what I call "very inexpensive," but I would never put the TXS in that category. It's in the expensive category, imo.

I went for the quietest one I could find ... almost all will give you a 10-15WHP gain ... except if you drive an EVO9, supposedly there is no gain (1WHP) on it if you change the catback ...

Pure Tuning showed a ~30whp gain on their Evo IX with a cat-back, and another ~30whp gain with a downpipe and testpipe for a combined 64whp gain from just a TBE. Don't ask me how or why, though...

Yeah, I read the thread from Nick@Precision ... I was just refering to the catback with no tune ...

Huh? I said Pure Tuning, not Precision. Pure Tuning saw 30+ whp gains with just a cat-back on an untuned car with no boost control and only an ARC induction box. Did you miss that thread? Precision saw very little gains with an exhaust on a fully-tuned car with boost control. We still don't have enough evidence with all the possible mod combinations to understand what is happening here...

I guess everyones definition of inexpensive is different.

For such a high quality piece 509.15 Shipped(what we offer them for) is cheap in my eyes when compairing it to the JIC 679.99, Invidia Ti Tip 679.99, HKS 742.50, HKS Carbon Ti 891.00 etc...

The carbon/titanium ones always cost a ton more, because they weigh a lot less. The ones on that list that are just stainless steel are just plain ripoffs. When you can get LPI/Megan for $350 and the full TBE for $550, then $500+ for the cat-back is still expensive. It's certainly not "very inexpensive." You can't compare it to ridiculously overpriced JDM exhausts, especially the carbon/titanium ones.

Im also going with the Megan...great piece fitment is good, sounds great, looks great, same performance for a cheaper price ...but if your looking for quiet the fujitsubo i heard is a very quiet piece, it has two resonators.
