Exhaust Upgrade
I am going to have to agree with warralton on this one...you see his times you see his numbers and he doesnt have the 1200 catback from hks. from what ive seen and read an exhaust is an exhaust...the megan is 304ss, 3" piping, fits the car fine with no modification, etc. that is the same spec on all the other catback systems out there what you are buying on a car like this is the sound. At the track i saw a 10 sec dsm with an exhaust that looks like he made it in his backyard, but i bet it made him the same power as a 1200 hks one and it still helped him run 10's thats just my .02
Exhaust is an exhaust power wise, sure for the most part. But if I want a Ti exhaust and kick down the cash for it thats up to me. I want that ARC Ti this and ARC Ti that even though it does the same job as product 'X' for pennies on the dollar thats up to me.
Expensive to one guy is not always going to be exensive to another. Its a wonderful thing customizing your car the way you want it, different tastes and budgets are out there and we should respect that.

does anyone know if the Apex-i GT spec exhaust clears the ground effects in the back, or do you need to get one of those protectore plates to protect the paint? I know that HKS clears the ground effects, but does the Apex-i GT spec?

You know what I love more than cheap parts? Cheap and used parts.
P.S. Thank you Megan.

You inferred that these cars were expensive. Why else would you refer to the cost of the car then ask why we skimp over a few hundred dollars? You were trying to make the point that the value of these cars should make us not care whether or not we overpay for mods by $200-300, which is absurd...

If they know, and do it anyway, that's their (your) prerogative, and I don't care. My purpose is to inform those who DON'T know so that they can make a more educated decision. For instance, if some noob read this thread and saw that Rally Sport Direct called the TXS cat-back "very inexpensive," that noob might go call up RSD and order it right away. Unfortunately, that exhaust is _NOT_ "very inexpensive," and if that noob would have known there was both the Megan and LPI exhausts out there for far less with NO sacrifice in quality, NO sacrifice in sound, NO sacrifice in weight, and NO sacrifice in power output, then that noob would be able to make a more informed decision.
Ok well I am done with this thread after this post.
Your posts are impling that I was trying to SCAM or MISLEAD someone into buying something that is not what they wanted. On average of all the Exhausts out there the turboXS is one of the Cheaper exhausts. And for a cheaper exhaust to come from a well known Australian company is something to say about their comitment to competitive pricing. I will admit it is not the Cheapest but is it not expensive or overpriced.
I do not see the reason for the constant attack against us. As you can see many of our customers have bought the turboXS and love them.
So while your opinon of "very inexpensive" and mine differ to go as far as to say I was trying to mislead a fellow board member is just wrong.
If you want to yell at me for some reason fell free my number is below.

Umm... I don't have a lot of money so I wouldn't know too much about it. But I seem to have the idea that spending a lot more money than somebody else and getting the same result is not something people put on their to do list.
So, pleae go right ahead and get whatever _you_ want. People are trying to give others advice regarding which exhaust to buy and value for money is to a lot of people quite important.
Opinions on which exhaust to buy is quite different to telling other people that they are being silly worrying about 250 or so USD. To me, and quite a few others it seems, it's significant. Specially if you look at it as a percentage of the price. And comparing to what was spent on a the car is just plain crap. You shouldn't skimp on quality, that much is true but how much you spend on a mod should be judged aginst what you get from it surely? If soemone tries to sell you, say, a set of pedal covers for $500 I'd compare it to what in my opinon it should cost and make my choice. To others it may be worth differently and different factors will carry more/less weight, but I doubt anyone would think: "well I spent 30k on the car, so this is nothing! Let's buy it!". I don't pretend to know how other people think, but from this people I know, that's not how it works.
And since you want people to look for 'expensive' in your post; please look for words "how to spend money" in my post. Until you find that, I will refrain from doing anything like s'ing tfu.

Hey, it's cool to save money and all that, nothing wrong with that. However, there is another saying which is very true and very applicable. With very few exceptions you get what you pay for. Sure, all exhausts will give you pretty much the same performance increases (as long as they are the same size and similar construction), but from there things can get very different. Some of them look like $hit, others fit like $hit and others are make like $hit. Also, customer support can be from excellent to abominable. The biggest factor however, can be the pride of ownership. Some ppl really enjoy having their car "pimped up" with nice expensive wheels, etc. Sure, some cheap wheels will perform just as well, but it's just not the same... Right? Why would the exhaust or any other part be any different? You want cheap? Go ahead and get cheap. But if you want to get something nice or cool, you just gotta pay the price
Oh yeah, if you really want to save money, you best not get the EVO, a decent used DSM Eclipse with the AWD and turbocharged engine can be had for a lot less money, and if you buy some cheap used parts you can have a car that will outperform the stock EVO in every way possible for less than half the total cost

ok bottom line just listen to warr, he knows what hes talkin about, and yes just make sure whatever you get its 3" all the way through(dp, tp, ex.), doesnt matter what brand, i mean i guess from what ive heard there are some fitment issues with some brands...but yea bottom line 3" downpipe, 3" test pipe, 3" catback, and yea if you want the most power get the test pipe, yea it deletes the cat but the cat is pretty ristrictive...later and good luck with the decision...
just to let you know i went with

For some people, a stainless exhaust is good enough and paying double for a Ti one is not worth it and for some the weight saving and the trick-ness of it is irresistable. And that's the way it works.
No, the Evo isn't going to be a cheap runner by any standards and people don't buy them for that. The thing is, not everyone who buys an evo has lots of money to spare or just plainly don't want to spend that much. There is a law of diminishing returns (progressively more cash for progressively slight gains) and where you stop is up to you. Just don't expect everybody to think the same way you do and don't insult them for not doing so....
Wow, you guys really get off-track. Opinions are just that....opinions. I just wanted to know what exhausts people have and why they got them. Thanks for all the help to those who answered my question. I just want something that looks good, doesn't sound too loud, and doesn't sound like those ricer mufflers ppl put on their n/a neons.
I spent a long time trying to decide which exhaust I wanted to go with. After all was said and done, I went with the Invidia N1 turboback. I am very happy with my purchase. One benefit of the Invidia N1 unit is that it sticks out from the bumper furhter than most of the exhaust for the Evo, eliminating build up on the bumper. For more information on my decision, here is a link to one of my threads.

Basically came down to I got a great price for a high quality invidia unit. The quality was great as is the sound a fitment.
