k&n filter question

I just installed a K&N filter drop in panel filter in my 05 evo. Currently my car has 5400 miles on it. Do I need a reflash of some type of or is it okay to run the car without it. Also what hp gains can I expect with this filter alone?

you can expect maybe 2-5 whp. You don't really need a tune for a drop in, but if you car starts running rich, pull out your maf and clean it with sensor safe carb cleaner. The oil from k&n filters is known to pile up on the maf and cause incorrect readings.

When I got the filter I made sure to wipe down all the excess oil that was inside the plastic bag that covered the filter. It seems like most of the ran down into the cardboard box and the filter seemed pretty dry except for the spot where all the oil was. Mind you the filter is still pink all over so the oil is penetrated into the cotton gauze.

There is no change in sound with the drop-in filter. An aftermarket BOV is not for the purposes of making noise, but rather for the purpose of holding boost more efficiently than the stock BOV. Please do not make the mistake of so many other Evo owners and buy a $200+ BOV in the attempt to make noise.

Edit: I apologize for only answering the thread jack. To answer the thread originator, the previous answer was correct. You can expect 3-4whp from the panel filter and by no means will you need to tune for it. That is the point of a panel filter...inexpensive, extra power, and no negative effects to the idle, driveability, or tune.

Just leave the cover off your intake box with the K&N filter in it.

Sounds nice

Dont worry warrtalon, sooner or later people will not find your tactful responses funny (but with me it will be later).
