found this on a subaru forum.....hmm. what do you think
most dealerships won't let you test drive the cars, find people you know with both and ask for a ride, i've driven the sti and evo. the sti might have a bit more power at first, but with the intercooler on top it gets super hot really quick and you loose alot of power. going around a corner felt like i was driving a tank compared to the evo, there's no issue here, go with the evo, i did and hav'nt looked back once

i tried to test drive the sti and they said they dont let anyone test drive it, they offered to let me drive just the wrx and i was thanks but no thanks. but i did get to test the evo without the guy in it with me.
Just watch the Hyper Rev Meeting video that ZK posted and you will soon find out that the EVO absolutely humiliates all STi's period in all categories. And those STi's in those 2 battles are probably the best tuned, well rounded STi's in the world being that they are tuned by Japan's best tuners. They all get their a$$es handed to them by EVO's. In the first race EVO's place 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.....STi's place in 5th and 6th...weak. It's no coincidence the record holder at Tsukuba Circuit is an EVO (although it's all carbon fiber). So both in straight line performance and through the twisties the EVO reigns supreme no doubt about it.

Damm this is an old topic! But always a good one. So heres my .02 I have owned both and love the evo more without a doubt. It all comes down to preference. I just have one question for everybody considering both.
Which car does every magazine, (both import and road and track type) every car show, shootout do they all refer too. THE EVO!! Its always... this car is no evo, or if it only handled like an evo, or its a great car but the evo has 4 doors and a trunk. so on and so forth. It seems pretty clear what car is the better one. They even compared the Dodge srt8 against it with something like 400+hp. Guess who one? Like I said before it all comes down to preference but if you are looking for the better car its EVO all the way.
Peace.

I have driven both cars and I have to say the STI sucks a**. It was an 06 and the engine felt good but damn open the hood and the mess under there was enough to make you want to stick a hot knife in you eye
There is NO way in h*ll that the STi handled better than the EVo. And don't get me started on the looks of that thing they were fugly as could be.
I couldn't think of blowing up one of those engine's. Plus if put an exhaust on one they sound like SH*T. POP POP POP POP POP POP, "hay buddy I think you have a plug wire that fell off your plug"

Handling - Evo (On the Sti you need coil-overs and larger swaybars, aftermarket end-links & bushings, to get near a stock Evo)
Power - Evo (You'll need to spend at least 10K to get 500WHP/WTQ on a Sti)
Tranny - Sti
Interior - Sti
Exterior - Evo
Fear Factor/Street Cred - Evo
Sound - Sti
I hope that helps...
Previous Cars : 03 Evo (Blown TC), 05 Sti (RIP)
BTW - Nasioc.com = Bunch of flamin #$%&s, IWSTI.com = Cool Just in case you do decide to go with the Sti

Anyway, mags are fun to read and get numbers from and pictures. But I refuse to ever let one have a hand in deciding my car. I suppose you could use them to illustrate a point. But you kinda contradict yourself. Anyway the decision is absolutly personal preference. Pick your poision, I have to say the people that say "the sti is so much better, this is why...." and the people that say the "the evo owns the sti, its so much better because...." are the fan boys and not enthusiasts. If you like the car then good, I picked the STi cause * I * liked it better, but that doesnt mean I need to get on here and say that "oh the STi IS better than the Evo..." see my point?
OK yeah, well talk about beating the dead horse over and over and over and over......

seriously how many people bring their cars onto on ice or snowy road? sti is a nice car but evo hands down is better, 1 the looks, 2 it being alot more mod friendly then the sti, 3 i myself like it better.

Being more mod friendly does not make any car a better car in general. Ferrari's and Lambo's are not mod friendly, does that make them anything less? There is more to driving than just modding a car. Besides, the STi is just as mod friendly it just costs more to mod. Let's not get that confused. People act like mods for the Evo doesn't cost anything. To make big power in and Evo right, you still need a pretty big amount of money. AMS Turbo kits are between $4200 and up plus accompanying mods, plus install. Add up part for part and install on both the STi and the Evo and let everyone see that there is only some differances in total price. Even if it is a few grand differance, how does that make one better than the other. See, there are actually alot of people who are broke after buying an Evo, so they are lucky it is cheaper to mod. If the Evo were on the opposite side of the "cheaper to mod war" do you actually think people would blaze the Evo? Lets leave it at that.
Well after reading through some of this thread there are a lot a misconceptions about the STi. I own a heavily modded STi, and I have never pulled out the motor for any work. Not even to change spark plugs! I will agree that both cars are very capable cars. It is cheaper to mod the Evo, but lets face it, the DSM motor has been around for almost 20 years! The EJ257 has only been out for less than half of that. As far as the tranny goes, I think that comes down to driver more than anything else. It is believed that the Evo motor is capable of handling more power, but since the STi has only been out for two years, no one knows how long the motor will last with major bolt on mods. There are plenty of STis out there pushing over 450AWHP on the stock block. The STi will require a clutch change at around 350AWHP. The Evo seems to need a clutch much sooner. Both cars will take major mods to make serious HP. The nice thing about the STi being a 2.5 liter is the torque. I'm making more TQ than HP with my current setup. I think the evo does better in the 1/4 mile mostly due to the extra shift that the STi has to make. I have to shift to 5th toward the end of the quarter mile. I'm really curious to see what kind of HP numbers are being made on 91 octane. My car suffers from the crappy 91 octane on my area. I really wish I had 93. Either car is a good choice, It just depends on what you intend to do with it.
