Thats not really true about the EVO and its clutch. I have been making 344ft/lb since 4000 miles on my car and at 35000 miles Ive had 386 ft/lbs, Im at 41,600 miles now, still on stock clutch. Oh, and I have more torque than HP too.

I will put it this way people know what the sti is and like it.. People know what the evo is and fear it.. Just last night i raced my friend that has a 03 cobra with pully, exhaust, tune, and cams.. vs my 05 MR with full exhaust, boost controller, 272 cams, fuel pump, and custom tune.

From a dig i killed him he just got to second then let off.. Then we went from a 30mph roll, 3 horn honk then we were off.. we were even untill third gear when i pulled half a car length on him!!!! i was completly shocked and soo was him and his friends .. and held him off even into 4th gear where we ended the race.

They swore i had a bigger turbo and was lieing to them about what i had.. The day befor that he raced an 06 sti with mods and completly riped it and thought thats what he was going to do to me..

Sti is just overrated.. If you are going to leave it stock its a good car.. soon as you mod it i think it will just suck up your money and give you nothing in return. And that is comeing from someone that use to own a subby. I put 5 to 6k into my wrx and it only mad 300whp on TT dyno jet. Maby some day they will unlock some magic power out of the suby boxer motor.. But untill then iam sticking with the evo.. just my 02

Wow you killed a cobra on the street woho! you da man ! Its called lack of traction, or driver error. I've spanked a cobra too and it was at the track. My point is, the driver has a lot to do with it. You poured 5-6K into your WRX, not your STi! There is a significant difference between the two. I feel sorry for anyone with either the Evo or the STi that decides to keep the car stock. Both have a lot of potential. I didn''t argue the fact that the Evo is cheaper to mod, it is! Its all a matter of personnal preference.

Sorry, it was me who said it. Correction, it is possible to do (I also own an Sti) but it's bastard difficult compared to the evo (less than 15mins compared to about an hour including working out how you're going to do it). The same goes with most things on it. The engine bay is much busier on the Sti so there's very little room to do thing. I have so far failed to install an HKS DLI-II on my Sti while keeping the stock intake box (GDB-E, btw so no room near the ABS). Besides, to get to anything on the Sti, you have to remove something else. It also doesn't help at all that they've got somethig like 3 different versions of cars that look the same - GBD C, D and E or something - and the variation is subtle but to an extent that the same part will not fit all of them.

Pegasus, are you running stock cams? I'm entertaining the thought of running aftermarket cams on my Sti but would rather not have to engine out of the car. Is it possible?

Well, I think the Sti's gearbox has a nicer shift feel to it and the ratios are better, specially the lower ones. As you said, it's down to the driver preferrence. I don't think there's an answer to which makes a faster car, but the Sti's tranny is certainly simpler and should be more efficient.

I envy those 2.5L cars - can't get them here. The extra torque would be welcome. Anyway, it would be rather unfair to compare a 2.5 to a 2.0 would it not? That's 25% more capacity so if you're going to mod the thing and compare with a 2.0, then the 2.5 is clearly going to make more power?

Very true. However, there is no escaping the fact that there are many more parts for the evo (some of the reasons for which you mentioned) and so those parts are cheaper. It is logical then that the average evo can be made to produce more power than an sti for the same money. The additional hassle involved in working on sti's will also cost money. It does not in anyway limits how much power you can make with either one and they are both nice cars and I can't see anyone being particularly unhappy with either one if you want a performance car that doesn't cost the same as a third-world village.

p.s. there is some truth in the inertia thing, I think. The opposing pistions will reduce the net force on the crankshaft.

I am really biased, cos i own an S203 and they've just released the S204, but I think the 05 model looks better.

Actually, I think with research, you'll find that Skoda has won more rallies than both. (includuding before they called it WRC).

specially if you just INCLUDE rather than INCLUDUDE!

evo vs sti

I've seen my fair share of reviews on both cars like many of us. Seems majority of the time the EVO edges out the STI. I remember a couple top gear videos where Jeremy made some pretty hilarious statements. If you want a boys car take the subaru, if you want a mans' car get the EVO. Another one was the sti,evo,audi..."were talking about FUN with a capital E and he chose the evo. I love that video just from that quote haha.

Evo all the way baby. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. The Sti is decent, but that's all i'll give it.
