I drove them both and bought the Evo because I liked it better.... Pretty scientific, eh?

Either car is a fine machine.

i think most of us will have a biased opinion on which car you should get. that guy sure doesn't seem to be very knowledgeable about the evo. both are great cars and they both have their weaknesses. you should go out and drive both of them and see what YOU like. if you are into modding i would definetely say go with the evo. for that guy to say he has never lost to an evo on a road course, maybe because he hasn't went head to head against one? because i know for a fact the evo handles better than the sti. anyways, good luck with you decision, do your research and choose what best suites your needs.

I don't know why you guys are wasting your time. He's obviously already made his mind up. Probably has it sitting in his driveway. His loss. All my WRX/STI friends are very shocked when they get into my car compared to theirs. Just another one to beat at Englishtown next year, huh fellas?

almost every single car show (best motoring, top gear, 5th gear, etc) comparison btwn the 2 cars have the Evo beating the STi on the track. i think that should say something about the comparison here.

the dude that wrote that gibberish up there has no idea what he's talking about....

Another thing to think about is the engines themselves. The 4G63 has been on U.S. shores since 1989 and is still basically the same. Easy to work on and any problems that haven't been dealt with yet through mitsubishi themselves is known by every Mitsu mechanic out there. The EJ25 is new atleast for us and there hasen't been enough miles put on enough different engines to see how reliable they really are. If you buy the mitsu you know there is a chance of crank walk (and other problems) and can keep and eye on it, but with the suby who knows. Anyway unless you are looking to fully prep your next car for competition you will be fine with either purchase both are fast and handle well both can be made faster. Or choice B. buy a used supra for 18000 put the difference into it and destroy both most street evos and stis.

i wonder if the dudes from top gear are wrong. i have a wrx and its alot harder to work on. changing the sparkplugs and stuff like that takes hours of work. both cars are fun cars to drive. but if i had the choice between the two cars, the evo. the sti is sure nice for a daily driver, but as far as modding, thats kinda tough. sure the sti did take first place at the sti-evo shootout( and trust me, i was really happy when this happened) but there was so much work went into that car. the evo, from what ive seen over the past yrs, will be much easier (less money) to mod than the sti. well good luck with your buying decision. which ever car you are getting, im sure you'll be happy with. just don't get the 06 model of the sti. that car is just plain puke.

I will give the 02-03 STi a thumbs up for looks as well as the 04-05.

If I had the money I'd consider an 02-03 as a second car or daily driver in a NY second.

I think it's one of the classiest looking moderately priced "import tuners" out there. It just has a cool look.

my best friend owns a sti and i have a evo 8. we both love each others cars, and there is no rivalry between us. We both drive awd 30k imports and love em to bits. There prolly is no better car(evo or sti). Drive both and choose with gauge cluster you like best, its the most different thing. Have fun, either way u wont pick a bad car, and either way ull be drivin home in the perfect car. How many people say" which should i buy... and evo or sti?

rock on man, have fun

When I was in the market, I really had an open mind. I figured both had similar power and similar track ability. What it came down to for me was comfort. I'm a tall guy and I simply could not fit in the STI. The EVO is much more spacious. The back seat on the STI is a joke. No one is going to sit back there except a very young child. With my EVO, I can put the seat back all the way and still get people back there.

I took my EVO out today for a little canyon carving. Wow - what a blast! It's a great ride and the car just sticks to the ground.

I went with the STi because I know people at a Suby dealer and the salesmen at the Mitsu dealer were tool bags
