my girl drives an sti... she thought her car was unstoppable, she has a full tbe, and a few other upgrades her ex man put in there for her to beef it up... she came to visit drove my bone stock ix with a catback and said it was quicker then hers is... so ofcourse they go to the luxury differences... cruise control, auto dimming mirror and short shifter.... so ofcourse the SSL package came into it....the STI is nice, i dont hate on em, but i dont know where that 300 hp is !!
I have come to realize that everytime I come across someone with a STi it seems as though they feel they have a step up from the Evo. Why? Not really sure. Before I moved there was this one guy who bought one down the road from me. And everytime I'd leave for work we would end up seeing each other on the on ramp to a very congested hwy. And me being a safety nut, he insisted that we go toe to toe everytime he saw me. So one morning I wrote up a little sign that said "save it for the track!!"and held it up to the window. Well he didn't like it. He followed me all the way to my work, which wasn't that far out of his way. As we exchanged words for a moment, not angry or anything, but I asked him what he had to prove everytime I saw him. He says back, "everytime I come across an Evo, I get spanked. Whether the car is stock or moded. I don't get it." I just replied with, "don't just go on hype the next time you go buy a car. Just because a car advertises more horsepower, doesn't mean shiit. Drive the car that you feel is the best to you. Not which one says is faster." And from that day on, he won't wave to me anymore. I wasn't rude or impolite to him. I was just talking, because I drove both cars myself before I bought. Evo hands down. But I normally have no problems with other STi owners, they usually just stare when they see and HEAR my car. Maybe it's intimidating to most of them and that's why a lot of people have a negative experience with them. Either way, I wave to them regardless if they wave back.
ok, quick 1. i went into a local bike shop (the peddle kind) i got a $3500 Giant Downhill race bike off the shelf. an employee comes up to me and we get talking, we get on the car subject and of corse. i tell him what i have ,and he tells me that, "OH, my friend will race you" i ask him what he has and he tells me an 05 sti. i was like, "your gonna put him into a race not knowing what i have done." he tells me that no evo around here will touch it. i ask him whats done to the sti and he says intake, cat-back, and a boost controller. i had to walk away because i could tell i was gonna get myself in trouble. i cant believe that the STI syndrome is rubbing off on there friends know too. btw: the "STI Syndrome" is "well i have an sti and im better and faster than everyone so there."
I agree with what someone said earlier, some people just don't know to wave back. They may actually think you waved because you knew them.....then they look at you trying to figure out who you are? On bikes, we always wave, s2000 people always wave as well, it sucks being in my car and seeing a bike, I always have to stop myself from waving like an idiot haha....
I get more wave-backs from STIs in my area than fellow Evo owners. I find that strange. I have an S2000 also and like S's always tend to wave or flash lights at each other. Maybe more retarded people drive AWD cars …
Sometimes I'll throw a thumb up instead of waving. Then they know it's more props than saying hello.

[edit] Background...I live in SF Bay Area where everyone has something to prove apparently....
I think it's because some of the STi drivers bought the car soley on spec sheets. No history background. Nothing. "What's WRC Blue?" K I'm assuming here. My friends all want (and probably 2/3 will get) an STI. At first it was because I was getting an Evo but I found that was only half the reason. The were sold on the spec sheets. That 300 does look a lot better than 286 haha but as someone stated before "I can't figure out where that 300HP goes" cus it obviously isn't all hitting the wheels. Now I have two Mazda owners lookin to get an STI and both are targetting me. Other guy might get a WrX but he's cool about not pushing my buttons. /sigh...i know who's getting the higher gas bill this year.
The waving out of respect is a great idea but the deal is most people don't know where these cars come from. And if they do, they don't have a sense of sportsmanship. In football I could hate the other team all I wanted yet still had all the respect for them because of commonalities. But that's STI <-> Evo.
Those Evo owners that don't wave are
1) in a hurry
2) have the "too cool for you" attitude
or 3) aren't on this forum (that's a lot isn't it?)
And I realize that some don't realize that they drive icons. STi, Evo, 'Stang, etc. These are the examples that others follow. Top of the line. You get what I mean. I do feel like a dumb@$$ when an Evo or STi driver doesn't wave back but they could have their reasons. But I notice that a lot are kinda ****** about it.
iono...that's my Dollar worth in commentary. lol
oh and something special:
A pirate has a steerng wheel in his pants and walks into a bar,
so the bartender says, "You know you got a steering wheel in your pants right?"
and the pirate says "Arrrrg! Its drivin me nuts!"

Have a nice day everyone.

I haven't had any issues with STi owners, in fact I have a few friends that went that route, but I get more kids in WRX's with an exhaust that want to race me all the time. That doesn't make much sense to me but oh well. For the most part most EVO's and STi's are cool when passing.
