Yup -- and laser

The V-1 really does work well. I guess until you have had one people will not understand.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

When I bought my STi I ordered a V1 the very next day. It worked great, loved the arrows.

When I bought my Evo I decided to do some more research and fell prey to Radartest.com and all of the other supposed unbiased radar test sites and I bought a RX-65.

The RX-65 is a good detector; and like someone else aready posted I was under the same thought that the arrows on the V1 are cool but when the RX-65 detector goes off just slow down anyway.

Well... you'll be slowing down all the time. After I got the RX-65 installed the first thing I noticed was that I missed the arrows.

Example: Merging onto the freeway and the RX-65 is going off. Where's the cop? Behind me? In front of me? Is it a false signal comming from a grocery store off to the side of the freeway? Don't know so I better slow down.

Driving my wifes STi with the V1, merge onto the freeway and the V1 is going off but it's pointing ahead; okay so now I know at least that the cop or signal is ahead of me. Slow down a bit and then notice that the signal changes to the side...cool, now I know it's BS and I can get on it. With the RX-65 , it just keeps beeping even after I've passed the signal so I have no clue that it's BS.

As far as the tests go with saying that the RX-65 and X50 picked up signals earlier. I'm not sold on that one either, If I was following behind my wife or one of my friends that also has a V1, I noticed on numerous occasions that they would hit their brakes a couple of seconds before the RX-65 even beeped; ie the V1 was going off (Ka band).

I have sinced sold my RX-65 and switched back to a V1. I love the situational awareness.
So just don't buy into all of the tests that your read on web-sites like I did; my first hand experience is contrary to what they say.

I also read someone post that they have a Rocky Mountain jammer and that it works... that's funny. Me and a friend went in together and bought one just as a test subject. It worked as a radar detector okay, but it didn't jam squat. I had a motorcycle cop friend of mine help us test it and it didn't do anything.

However; another friend of mine bought a Scorpion Jammer system for his Audi RS6 and it worked really well on K band and fairly well on Ka. He said he paid over a grand for it.

The Rocky Mtn is designed for Laser jamming. Radar jamming is illegal in all states.

As for the whole detector debate...common sense and that extra $150 in my pocket keeps me out of tickets with the 8500 X50. Two years now, driven cross-country multiple times, and not one ticket. I attribute that to paying attention to where you are, only speeding when I feel it's reasonably clear and slowing down when I have a signal I'm not sure of. Not to some retarded arrows.

Knocking not required. In 13 years of driving I have had one speeding ticket, and it wasn't in my Evo. Like I said, I use common sense judgement and I keep my eyes peeled when I am over the posted limit.

I agree, unless you are alone on the road, you can usually spot a cop in plenty of time to slow down. Now, if they pull you over because of the car, well that is a different story that i'm sure we all know....

Very insightful.....

As I said before, unless you have actually used a V-1 you can't really understand.

What, is it some revelation to have arrows? So let me say it this way, if you don't have a 8500 X50 you just won't understand.

Had a V1, liked it but hated the cord. Also hated that it's only effective when it's sitting right in the middle of the windshield for EVERYONE to see.

I now have the new Solo and love it.

I am not discounting the effectiveness of the 8500. It has great sensitivity and range. I am also not sitting here insulting its features. The extra $150 was worth it to me -- and yes the arrows are a good part of that.

Revelation -- Something revealed, especially a dramatic disclosure of something not previously known or realized.

Yes I think it would be a revelation to you

If you use the provided phone cable to hard wire it then the springy cord is not necessary. I have my V1 mounted in the top left of my window. It works great there and most people don’t even realize it is there until it goes off.

I agree that it sucks to have a radar detector in the center of your window -- unfortunately this is not exclusive to any one type. You want to mount a detector where it has the best possible visibility.

Well thank you Mr Webster, I never knew what that word meant. Arrows are not revelation...they are an excuse to why you spent the extra money on hype.
