I've got 2, 8500's in my eclipse and TSX....and a V1 in my evo. Honestly, yeah the arrows help, but I think they are pretty equal as far as ability to prevent you from getting a ticket. In reality, the whole point is to allow you enough time to slow down to prevent a ticket, and while the V1 might appear more fancy, they both have an equal track record for me. i.e. zero speeding tickets. I will say however that the 8500 in my TSX gets by far, the most use as its my daily driver so that may come into play for my opinion.

the argument between V1 and 8500 is just like the STI/EVO argument get what you like and what best suits your needs. both are awesome, yet different and both will rarely let you down.

If you're happy with what you have, that's all that matters. Not going to waste time argueing which radar is better.

For the record, I have the V1 mainly because it's remote unit fits perfectly into an evo. It looks like it belongs in there. Check out the pics! The 2 front and rear radar/laser detecters, the arrows, junk radar detections, POP etc.. are all bonus

Took off that whole panel, Removed the stock Emergency lights button. Dremeled away some plastic behind it to make some extra room. Hard-wired the V1 and installed the remote V1 in place of the emergency lights button.

Relocated the emergency lights button under the steering column.
Positioned the V1 to have a clear view to the front and rear.

Good installation.. I had a similar setup with the passport since the electric plug has the "remote" in it.... The big thing I don't like with mine or your installation is that the radar detector itself is never hidden... I wonder if they could be installed somewhere outside the cabin. Maybe in the front of the car behind the grille or something. Then the only thing inside the car would be the remote unit which could be discreetly intalled in to the dashboard....

I've toyed with the idea of taking it apart and checking it out. If the radars themselves are connected to some kind of control unit with wires, they could be extended placing them in front of the vehicle and behind. Of course this is complete speculation and I dont feel like shelling out another $400 to find out

I have not read any articles about radar detectors in Turbo magazine, so I have to refrain from commenting on it one way or another. Now, if you go to radartest.com you might find some interesting articles and tests of various units. Do a search in the web and I'm sure you can turn up at least a couple or more articles on the subject. When I did that before, I always found that the V1 was "not" rated the highest in all respects and actually, it was surpassed in some aspects by other less expensive units. True, it was always rated very highly, but never the absolute best, hands down winner.

I think you may be referring to one single test that was done.. And if I recall that was back in like 03 or 04.. car and driver has been testing radar detectors for about 2 decades and come up with similar results more than once

if you are going to install anything outside the cabin just upgrade to the escort SR7...

I stuck with the V1 because it's like $600 cheaper than the SR7 and the in cabin models out perform the front car remote mounted models presumably dude to the height of the cabin increasing the line of sight range.
