My Evo to STi Story (Long)

For gods sake, the service rep at my local dealership tried to tell me that the reason my car was grinding into second is that my motor was not designed to be revved that high (6000 RPM's). I asked "then why is the little red line start at 7000?" After I had an intelligent technical discussion with the service manager, their story changed. Point being, if you want to ensure the least trouble obtaining warranty service with a high performance car, DON'T MOD IT!
[pK]Lightening: We'll be waiting to hear back from you when you have an issue with your STi after it is modded and the Subaru dealership gives you hard time about warranty...
You play, you pay ... simple
Actually you won't because I don't plan to mod the STi. Still, you have a perfectly valid point that at no point in this thread have I tried to challenge. If I were to mod the STi the way I modded the Evo, I'd expect the some static.
HOWEVER:
I wouldn't expect it to take 13 weeks, I wouldn't expect them to blame everything possible in an effort to weasel out of the work, and I would STILL expect them to fix it if it turned out to be crankwalk.

After the 11 week diagnosis it took them 2 weeks to get the parts and fix the issue, then it took me 72 hours to settle into the seat of an STi.
But from your side of the story, it sound like they have an inept service department.
For what it is worth Fram filters cause many issues with VW and Audi motors.Noisy lifters upon start-up due to the lack of a built-in checkvalve. Some filters when installed wouldn't allow proper oil pressure(too low).

With that said, good luck w/ the STi.

Speaking from experience I have to agree completely. Although I beleive copper shavings would be a big test for any filter, my lifters probably wouldn't have been clogged if I'd used Mobil1 or K&N filters. When in doubt, better safe than sorry, better to have and not need than need and not have, don't put all your eggs in a fram-basket, and of course... go with what you know. I'm likely to steer VERY clear of FRAM filters in the future.

Apparently the drain back is prone to leak and it has a cardboard end cap. Although they mention the Tough Gard is better than the regular Extra Gard.

Wow, I have the same problem with my seatback (the hard plastic is broken) and didn't know it was a general problem. Just like with the clear-coat peeling off the Brembo brakes, I thought it must have been something I did. Thanks for letting me know about this.
