Oh my God My stomach hurts! I think he called you a moron for stopping. Like I posted earlier .. there is no way on God's green earth that the officer can catch you if he was stationary. If he got on the rover and alerted his boys thats a different story. You must have blew by him so hard that it knocked the dounuts out of his hand, while the coffee spilled in his lap.

Man dude...That really sux. My friend was cought speeding at 120 mph here in Virginia. His lawyer basically told him he is screwed. This happened like 1 week ago. Good luck to you.

 

Not sure if this has been answered, but I lack the time to read all 10 pages.

The only loop hole I have found when fighting a speeding ticket is this.
I was written for 20over.
I had the opportunity to ask the officer questions during the process.
My question was:
Could you provide the court with documetation of the last calibration that his speedometer (stated he was pacing me) was completed? The officer could not, nor could the department. Since the speedometer could not be proven to be accurate (and its proof that counts) the ticket was dismissed, with nothing more than the judge smiling and stating openly good job, but slow it down.

Now, the judge was sympathetic and amused that some no name kid found a loop hole and presented it with tack and professionalism.

The same may work here. I realize that my example was a pacing ticket, but should apply to all laser/radar guns. Technically overhead plane and helicoptors speeds, gps units, and even stop watches can be called in to question based on that question of calibration.

Wether it will work for you or not is a crap shoot. Its worth a shot.
Your hosed if the method used has verification of recent calibration.

 

I don't know if I agree - in this case I would spend the money and get the best attorney you can afford.

I think you did the right thing by stopping - no car can outrun a radio.

Take it from someone who knows. I passed a cop at 136. After many miles he finally caught up (bad idea to really run). I was cuffed, stuffed and given a field sobriety test. I refused to talk at all. All I asked for was the officer's supervisor to show up. The cop was all hyped up from the chase. They finally let me go after the two officers argued. I was ticketed for reckless operation and endangerment to an officer's life. Very serious CHARGES.

Now the advice. Get a lawyer that will represent you. Get a lawyer from the jurisdiction you are going to court in. You want the laywer to know the prosecuter. The lawyer will plea bargin with the prosecutor to reduce the charges to excessive speed. It is critical to do this before you are standing in front of the judge.

Dress in your best suit, well groomed, and be super polite ("Yes your Honor"), and humble. Take the tounge lashing from the judge and look sincere.

If you are wondering, yep, I walked with a hand slap, $36 and court costs. I bargained excessive speed (72 in a 55). The judge was impressed that the prosecutor was impressed with me (I was my own lawyer -- with backing from friends that were lawyers). They assumed by my talk and behavior that I was also in the legal profession. The judge further reduced the fine.

Take any further driving like this to the track.

Check with Phillips and Associates - I hear them on the radio and would probably be cheap.


If you want a better defense, try contacting a firm that doesn't need to advertise on the radio, like Jones, Skelton & Hocholi or Doyle Berman Gallenstein.

If anyone is thinking of going to Hawaii, forget it, lets boycott them and their stupid laws. I've been to Hawaii twice and New Zealand once. Hawaii blows. New Zealand is amazing.

 

I think it is going to be hard to get the fine reduced. If you can't, you will have a Class 3 Misdameanor on your record. I highly doubt you will get a judge to show you any compassion since you were traveling at such a high rate of speed. If you have a CDL, you won't be able to get anything reduced. If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

 

When youre in Arizona with no where to hide...no real choice...but i understand where youre coming from...i did get away from the cops one time in my friends 265 hp maxima. It was only because where I live its urban...just like you..very easy to turn off the lights...engine brake to slow the car down and take an exit without the cop even noticing.

 

What freeway street did you do this? What state?
