Kinda shortened my break in period...

I have no self control... I was carefully breaking in my Evo, and had behaved (mostly) up to the 300 mile point. Not my fault a real nice looking red 300ZX TT pulled up at the light beside me, and proceeded to rev at me. Had to defend the pride of the carbon fibre wing. So, as the light changed I took it to 6K RPM and quickly rolled out of the clutch. I had him by 2 car lengths by 3rd gear. He tried again at a roll, pulled steady on him to 60, backed off. Final time was him behind me, empty straight road, from a 10mph roll... I pulled him hard all the way to 110, he was at least 8-10 car lengths behind.

Talked to the guy afterward, he tells me he runs 13.8-14.0 at the strip, and was amazed how a stock Evo was smoking him. Had to tell him about the specs for a bit, then parted with a mutual import performance thumbs up.

I love this car... a lot.

Almost forgot... hit the redline twice, still not used to the sound/feel of the car for shifting. Gear shifts were solid, no grind at all and similiar in feel to my Miata I was racing in Solo II. Redline was somewhere just south of 8K.

Fun. I wish there were some nice cars in my area. The only cars that I see are kids in ricey honda and cavaliers , who can't even hold a candle to my car (let alone an Evo) and while, I don't have an Evo (YET!) and can't complete with a 300ZX TT, it would be nice to see one.

2cool,

Doesn't the rev limiter kick you out around 7-8k? The 1st time I launched mine, I had such a stong lauch (still used to the L spinning for a bit), and I hit redline just as I started to upshift to 2nd, but then the rev limiter kicked me right out of redline just before I completed the shift. I wasn't quick enough tha 1st time, but it definitely made me become accustomed to shifting a little quicker from 1st to second (right before I see it come close to 7000, and then the upshift takes place around 7500) ... as the evo has a very short 1st gear especially if it's launched correctly amd it takes off like a rocket with superb traction thanks to awd. Excellent job btw ... appears that you are running mid-13's stock, which is better than than some of the tests I've seen.

You're sure it was a TT, right?

Yea, I was under the impression that Nissan 300Z TT's could do better than 14 sec 1/4's ...

13.8 sounds about right to me. 0-60 I think was about 5.6.

Yeah, the 300 TT is an awsome machine to drive, but it weighs about 3800 lbs and so does not do as well as a drag racer.
But it is still fast, and a worthy opponent. Nice kill.

correction, it weighs around 3500lbs

3800lbs is what a 3000gt vr-4 weighs

I owned a '90 300ZX TT, so yep, I am positive. Rear spoiler, intercooler ducts in front fascia, definite turbo and bypass valve noises under the hood (300ZX's "honk" when the bypass valve cycles)
