Autostart questions

Has anybody installed autostart in thier evo....The alarm shop told me since it has immobolizer they have to leave a key in the car soo the ignition can read the chip and start the car. Another shop told me thier is a bypass which you dont need extra set of keys. Does anybody have any info on this. By the way they said its not the DEI 556U becasue that requires leaving the key inside the module.

I did not think you could not put auto start into a manual.

A friend of mine installed autosart on his civic hatchback 5 spd a few years back. Worked great for months until one day he forgot he left it in gear at a local convience store parking lot. Luckily it only ran into the light pole in the lot and no one was hurt. Front end of the car was bent up pretty good though. Pretty damn funny to tell ya the truth!

Good thing I've never been one to park in gear. I don't see any reason to park in gear, honestly.

Me neither, unless you're on a hill. Sometimes the E-brake isn't strong enough to hold the weight of the car.

In order to get the remote start to work with a manual, you just have to unplug the wire or cable (whatever it is) that forces you to push in the clutch to start the car. I unhooked mine.

I agree with you. I usually use my turbo timer when I get park anyway, so I cant leave it in gear even if I wanted to.

That has got to be one of the dumbest things I've ever heard!! How could you forget that you have a remote start on your vehicle, park it, and then try and start it?? BTW, there are bypass modules that allow you to start the car without leaving the key in it.

I got the Compustar system and it' has most of the safety features you would need to not accidentally start your car in gear. You will need a bypass for the immobilizer and that will require the extra key. The reason being, the Evo's immobilizer is pretty good, so the chip in the key is needed for the autostart feature.

The alarm system is pretty good and I love my autostart during this winter.

I have the Compustar 2WSS/AS on mine. Works like a charm. The distance on the 2way remote is suppose to be 1.5 miles... almost, but no cigar. (not complaining it goes really far) I know that mine needed a key to be put in the dash, but the installer grinded the teeth on it so that someone could not ever use it if the car was broken into. If you have any other questions about it just PM me.

I have the Dei 556uw in my car and put the spare key in it. It is cheap to get a new key, go anywhere to get it cut, and you can program it yourself if you already have two working keys. The extra key goes into the 556UW and is hidden in the dash, or thats how I did it. If you are worried about someone breaking into the car and taking apart your dash and getting to the spare key that is hidden in the 556uw box it is not very likely. I know that anything is possible so if this is a concern, you can program the new key and cut the metal key part off and just have the rubber back because that is where the chip is.

if you're scared you're going to accidently park it in gear and use a remote start, you should buy a turbo timer. It'll keep you from leaving the car in gear because you'll jump the car if you try to b/c the car is still on when u take the key out. If you're going to accidently stall and jump the car, better to do it while you're in the car than when you're outside... least you might have a chance at braking or something.
