Can't say about the 9s but the 8s you dont need to go to the dealer. I made 2 keys that can start the car and keep it running from my local locksmith. He used a special handheld key programmer. Similar to an expensive obd2 scanner.

It's just a PATs system and you should be able to program it from the ignition. HOWEVER, you need 2 keys to program it, otherwise the dealer has to do it if you lost a key.

at least I tried MR587430 and it wont get programed with the two key method
it can be the key ,
or it can be the Immo

since I cant get the part# for an Evo 9 key ,
I need to get the key from dealer anyway ...

Is it even safe to program your key at a locksmith? I mean your giving them the code for your immobilizer and they know what car its for. I would get it done at the dealership just to be safe.

I guess you need a locksmith you trust. I've been going to the same one for 10 years and he does good work. I trust him more than I trust the dealership.

Yo

I did mine myself it tells you in the ownwer manual how to do it. The stealer wanted to charge me $65. to do and I said it tell you in the book. He did not believe me. All you need is both original keys to do it. Done mine over 3.5 months ago and remote starts works fine.
