Problem with Oil Pressure gauge.

I just installed a Autometer Oil Pressure Gauge and it isnt reading right. I turned the car on and it shot up to about 80psi and then slowly, like over 5 minutes, dropped to 25psi. Does this sound like a problem with the sending unit or a wiring problem? Anyone else have this problem? The unit has been sitting around for a year or so thats why Im wondering if maybe the sending unit is bad.

On my car it reads 0 when I turn on the car. Them when I start it, it goes to about 90 psi then slowly comes down to about 30 psi when it is idiling (and warmed up)

So the oil pressure in our engines is only 30psi? That seems really low to me. I was expecting more on the lines of 50 or 60.

At idle the pressure doesn't have to be that high. I get the same reading from my gauge. When I am driving around it is closer to 60, and up to 90-100 at wot.

Thanks guys, I'll have to wait until I can drive it to see what it does at speed. Im just going off of the pressure gauge on our SS which is a constant 60psi.

where's your sender tapped? In the head or at the bottom near the pan? that will affect it as well, but it sounds right. . .

Thanks everyone, I was starting to worry that I was going to have to pull everthing back apart.

My sensor is in the bottom, near the filter.
