Just FYI it would be pointless to install a vortex generator with the smaller wing. It was designed to create a circular air movement at a specific height above the rear deck, thus missing your new lower spoiler. Of course if you are doing this for "looks" I guess it wouldn't matter, but then again most people don't buy theese cars for looks anyway.

I know. I was doing it for looks; I guess I should have been more clear at the outset. I must note, however, since it's such a popular topic, that allegedly the Mitsubishi engineers tested and validated the VG on a wingless car. There's another thread on this point, but I'm not gonna dig it up right out.

Yeah; a heat gun sounds better. Do they sell them at the hardware store? That might be my next purchase.

And thanks for all the nice comments, everyone!

Hmm, not sure. We always get them from the px. Probably though.

Looks

The wing is primarily for looks. It is irrelevant unless you plan on going extremely fast. In fact, when you get right down to it the wing adds weight (sure, it is minor).

That said, it exists because it makes the evo look fast. This is appealing to the consumer.

I think I read about this vortex generator research paper from Mitsu. It wasn't just for the wing. it creates less vaccum in the rear section of the body. It reduces the drag and creates more down force using this vortex generator alone. I think that paper mentioned that vortex generators cause the drang itself but it helped reduced the drag by decreasing the volume of the vaccum created in the rear. However, drag reduced was too small to notice. it was like 0.037.

Edit: Yes, I like my RS. It is so so stealthy even with my carbon fiber trunk. People never suspect my car to go faster than their cars.

Do the mounting studs on the small spoiler match up with the existing holes on the evo trunk lid? Or do you have to weld the existing holes and drill new ones?

I think this is close to what I'm looking for.

Thanks!
