EVO Sound System

Most of the threads here relate mostly to tuning the already blistering fast motor, so I thought it would be a nice change of pace to dive into the world of the audiophile In my research online not too much info can be found about the factory installed stock set-up. Are we talking premium sounds here? Has anyone upgraded there sound systems yet? That is if you have any dinero to work with after picking up your new EVO Post it up if you have so we can check her out. Laters

I picked up some Kenwood Exellon 6-1/2"s all around, a Sony MXP70 head unit plus JL 10" sub with Alpine amp from my Lightning I traded in. Still have to install the XM receiver and deciding on whether to go for an amp for the 6-1/2s. Sounds much better than stock right now though...

Only pic I have so far is this one, which doesn't show the Sony on or lit up. Good thing about the Sony is I can choose the background color on the LCD screen, so right now its red like the guages. Plus it plays MP3s, and is XM ready:

Changed out everything. Placed Alpine CDA 9813 head unit. Boston pro's 6.5 separates up front and Boston NX67 co-axials in the rears. Will add sub later.

Yep, tray load, no issues so far. Not quite as extreme an angle as to cause any problem.

I plan on installing the panasonic MXE CQ-HX2083U. it has nice capabilities, plus it has a touch screen that blanks out, and i hi-res display. it can be set to different colors, including red to match the dash, and the climate control lights (i put red bulb condoms on mine, so it would match gauges... now i just gotta get to the cigarrete lighter bulb.. any insight would be nice, i dont want to wreck my interior)

I have a plan to flush mount it, and put some kind of silver transparent film (tint or possibly something else.) so it really blends in with the trim panel when its off, and shines though it when it's on. when it becomes available, i'll attempt it and post how it goes..

here is a pic of the unit with the blue color display.

I hate the fact that the rear seats can not be opened It's makes a huge difference in sound. You almost could not even tell I had a system if I had the seats up in my ride now. By the way I have 2 eclipse aluminums with 2 1100 watt US Amps. So no it's not a crap system.

Nice job. Looks like a nice start.

Sorry if this is a little off topic but is it true that the usdm sti is really only going to come wired for sound but with no actual sound system. If so how much will they charge to add the sound.

Thanks, Mike

Yes, it's true, no stock sound. The price you pay to get some will largely depend on how greedy the dealer feels (if you get it there) and what kind of system you want.

2cool,

This is off topic, but I couldn't help but notice your gauge above the shifter. Do you have any closer pics of that and descriptions of the install?

Thanks!

All of these pics are showing the head unit front loaded instead of ISO mount, ISO is much more attractive, but trim rings are tricky and have to made by hand.
Took me about 5 1/2 hours to install mine.
sorry no pics , no dig cam!
