First Mod.

I ordered my first mod yesterday. It will be here on Tuesday, most likely. I got a Test Pipe, HKS Hi-Power Cat Back Exhaust, and a HKS Down Pipe. What gains do you think I will yield on an Evo IX with this applied?

Depends… 20hp… maybe 30.

All you have to do now is get that thing tuned and there’s really no need for anything else after that. You'll have plenty of power.

Hm. so BEFORE I tune it, will I notice the difference? And also. What will be my gains AFTER the tune.

You WILL feel the power difference even before the tune. No doubt.

After the tune you could be around 350whp easily, or more. It really depends, but no matter what, after your tune, you won’t be able to wipe the smile of your face. Evo 9s are absolutely bananas when it comes to mods.

Should I get an intake before I tune it?

I'm running K&N right now with the top of the intake box off.

An aftermarket intake is not absolutely necessary.

You’ll get faster turbo spool-up and you may get a few extra ponies. If you do go with an aftermarket intake, install it at the same time you get your car tuned.

But the safest bet would be to stick with the stock airbox. It works fine.

1) No, you won't feel much power on an IX with just an exhaust. The stock IX ECU is very intelligent and will pull back the boost when it detects the additional airflow. We have seen dynosheets of cars that added intake, exhaust, and HKS 272 Exhaust cam that didn't gain any power over stock. After tuning, then the guy got all the power of the mods AND the tuning, which put him up over 330whp.

2) No, don't add an intake. Please put the cover back on your airbox. Why did you take that off? Don't mess around with your IX, man.

3) With a TBE, depending on the type of flash you get and how much that flash raises boost, you should be anywhere from 320-350whp. It's best to get an MBC and boost gauge, so that you can regulate the boost to wherever you want.

Any turbocharged car has a precise Air-fuel-ratio (AFR.) When you change to an aftermarket intake you dramatically change the AFR and the car may not run properly. It’s always necessary to tune (make corrections to AFR and other values) when getting an aftermarket intake. This is all done on the ECU (the cars’ computer.)

Is this a K&N "drop-in filter" or the complete intake replacement? Yes, keep the top on.

Why're you telling me whether or not to mess with MY car?

And it's the drop-in Air Filter.

Because you're new, you don't know what you're doing, and you asked for advice. Why are you asking me why I gave you advice? I also didn't say not to mess with your car; I said not to MESS AROUND, which means don't do dumb things to just make sound or whatever. Put the lid back on your stock airbox.

Go buy an Evo IX(assuming you can afford one) and then rant about it like you have one.
