Mini Battery

Here is a little info/pics of my mini batter project.

I made a cardboard template after I removed the stock battery (see bottom of post for link to removing battery). After that I just went to town cutting - here is what I came up with.

Brand Name companies batteries ~ $195 - $260

My project

Mini battery (odyssey 680mj) $85 (ebay)
Stainless tray - free
Aluminum tie down - free
threaded tie down rods (cut down stock) - free

Total cost (for those with arthimatic skill difficulties) - $85

Stock

Testing the battery for a day to make sure it worked (notice the plastic spacers on the tie downs - they were too long, that is why I cut them down later)

This is the finished piece

So, now the upper intercooler pipe looks kind of wierd, but it will be changed with another 'budget' upgrade.

All and all the finished product came out great. This was not meant to be a 'cheap' project and for those who don't have the stainless and/or aluminum laying around this would have cost about 100 bucks.

For anyone looking for a write up of how to remove the battery Nisei engineering did a semi good one. They failed to mention (at least from what I noticed) that wires are connected to the battery tray and that it may be easier to remove the filter to get to the clips below. But other than that its a good write up.
Nisei Engineering mini battery install

I am not sure if this will fit with the stock airbox. I did not use that as a requirement when I made it because I have the BR filter installed.

a hundred dollars? haha raw materials for that will cost nowhere near 100 dollars. even from the most expensive material supply i know of (mcmaster carr) you can get a 1/4x2x6 6061 aluminum bar for 15 dollars, and a 12x12x.04 stainless sheet for the bottom for 10 dollars. two bolts with nuts, 5 dollars tops. total cost, about 30 dollars...

otherwise, looks good and props to the DIY.

Very nice!

Looks just as good as Buschurs tray. So you say it would have cost $15 in additional materials?

Exactly, $100 bucks total (assuming you paid the $85 for the same battery + ~$15 material).

There is minimal material required (just the tray and tie down). The rest can be reused from stock (bolts and nuts). It will just take time to make it - that is it.

You can get less expensive batteries, but this was one of the larger ones offered by odyssey without going to a larger size case that will get in the way of my future intercooler pipe.

Thanks for the compliments guys.
