Dyou have a Car Alarm, worth it?

How many people here have car alarms? Is it worth it? Or just a waste of money.

Since you live in NY, I would recommend it.
It will alert other people around the car (when alarm goes off) and possibly scare the thief away.

But here is an issue. If someone really wanted to get into your car or steal your car, nothing will stop them.

I've never had my cars stolen but I've seen it happen to my friends.
They all had an alarm.

It will only discourage the amateur thief, joyriders; crackheads looking to do a smash and grab will likely do that anyways. Pros will get your car. Best bet is to not leave anything out in the open to entice a thief. If you're gonna make a real "look at me" car, best to figure out a secure place to park it at night.

Besides that, anyone who says what they have on their car in a public forum as far as anti-theft protection, derserves what they get.

Do your homework, pick a system you like and can live with/afford that makes you feel better, and go with that. I had a CrimeGuard 750(I think that was the model number) on my last car...never gave me trouble, but I think that is more a credit to the shop that installed it...really took their time doing it. Couldn't even tell it had an alarm looking anywhere on the car. And yes, they did actually put one in. The installer is probably just as important as the unit you choose. Like I said, do your homework...ask to see examples of a shop's work before handing your car over to them. Remember, it's your money and car...get what you're paying for.

i got ya. thats my problem, I dont want installers messing up my car. Its hard to find a decent shop that does a clean job here. All shops here doesnt respect your car, they just dont care if they scratch your interior or break some clips, etc etc

Before you invest in an alarm, get some GAP insurance and lower your Comp/collision deductible on ur insurance.

Alarms aren't good for much besides lowering your insurance premium IMO. Disabling the engine makes it so the only way they can steal your car is by towing it away. There are a lot of ways to do it. Just be creative. Check out this thread for some ideas. https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...light=fuse+box

Basic lojack sucks becausse most of the time you wouldn't know your car is gone till the morning.... and by then its either chopped into tiny pieces or in mexico.

I have to say if they want it bad enough it will get stolen. When you hear an alarm going off in a parking lot do you rush to see what is going on or do you think "Man I wish that thing would shut up" I myself do the later of the two.

The alarm you are referring to is the viper 791xv. I have one on my car and the remote start works. It is great for those early cold mornings Chicago weather is not the greatest. But the 791xv has a transponder so if someone is messing with your car the remote will start making noise and tells you what is being messed with on your car. I like it, hasn't failed me yet
