question about auto carwashes

i know i know, i should always hand wash, but sometimes i don't have the time and i want my car looking good quick. is it ok to go to through an auto carwash with our wings sticking up so high in the back? and would too much water come in the hood vent and mess up an air filter?

As long as its a touchless wash you should be fine. I always pull around to the shade afterward and hand-dry, otherwise you get spots.

i wouldn't use an auto wash even with my Honda. you're just asking for [paint] trouble.

high pressure can lead to water in headlights = condensation not to mention fine scratches that can be seen on black and dark grey. That and the device that guides your car loves to eat aluminum pieces from wheels.

Apart from that they are great

Invest in one of those spotless devices, I have the CR. Wash it and rinse it and your done..quick. I'd say its 90% spotless, cant complain for the most part.

I use a touchless wash as a "prep" wash before I do my real wash and also for a quick wash when I just don't have the time. The place I go to meets my approval. The spray is far enough away from my car (wing included) to keep it safe.

A good rule of thumb is if the spray stings your skin then it's too close and can damage your paint. That would be about 18" from the nozzle (minimum distance). Never use a brush or roller type wash. That's trouble waiting to happen.

[B]its a risk...i took mine in a shell gas station with a carwash...

you know how it has those spinning thing with all the rags wiping your car.

look at this http://www.lenntech.com/images/car-washed.jpg

be careful on those. it hit my right side mirror and scratched it. the mirror was push forward to the side..good thing its not noticeable but i guess i was just fortunate it didnt do much damage...or its possible if the sign says SUV can fit but if its for a car then DONT...

i would suggest if you need a quick one, MR.Clean with autodry or go to a PRESSURE CAR WASH.

+1 on that.

there's a decent touch free wash near my house that i use all the time as a prep wash.

then i take it home and scrub her down with my Mr. Clean wash kit.

A touchless should be fine. Make sure you bring a towel to wipe off the excess water, the blowers as you exit only make noise.

nay to the touchless car washes. i took my ix through one and water was forced into the hood vent. then steam started coming out of the engine bay...water on maifold. i wasn't happy about that!!

water will get into the vent regardless, but with handwashing, at least you can control the amount of water getting into the vent.

Those kinds of car washes is why I have my Evo. One touchless car wash at BP ruined my '04 SVT Focus for life. The sunroof / doors leaked ever since. Ford tried to fix three times. Got sick of dealing with it, and traded it in on my Evo. Hand wash and Mr. Clean ever since.
