transfer case/Warranty question

Well i have been having some transfer case whining for about a week...so i took my car to the dealer and they said that if they tear it open and find out that its my fault its messed up i will have to pay for them taking it apart but if its not my fault then they will replace it under warranty...does this sound right? im getting pretty much a 50/50 chance of getting warranty work done......i dont want them to say its my fault and get raped with dealer fees........shouldnt they look to see if its defective at no charge?

Taking a transfer case apart is a 15 minute job. Removing it from the car to take it apart takes a little longer. Do you have substantial mods to the car? Logically, the transfer case should not be affected much by minor bolt ons, but Mitsu warranty interpretation is not "logical" by the owner's perspective. Ask them how much it would cost for them to inspect it, so you'll know what your risk might be.

i rather not waste any money to have them look at it......i feel that they should take a llok at it for free to see why its messed up and just charge me if i want them to fix it if its my fault......i put my car back to stock before i took it in...so they didnt hassle me about any mods....

dude they screwed me... they told me upfront the samething they told you, and its not a 15min job tearing it apart... its 2hr job for a good mechanic to get it out and the a good 30 mins to take the tc apart but if the dealership does it they'll charge you for about 10hr job... 65dollars and hour so with tax around $720 to take it apart, and thats no to put it back togather so if they dont cover it your looking at about $1500 dollars, and the shop will not release you car until its paid in full,, you better off taking it apart yourself, and sending the tc to shepard racing, he only charges $1300 for his stage 2 lsd built tc that you'll probly never break for a long time, that what i'm gona do...
